Abstract

Occupational safety awareness is an essential component in supporting workplace preparedness and reducing occupational risks within mining exploration environments. Exploration porters frequently encounter hazardous working conditions, including difficult terrain, heavy equipment transportation, environmental risks, and physically demanding operational activities. This community empowerment program aimed to strengthen occupational safety awareness among exploration porters through participatory PPM activities conducted in Banyuwangi on October 22, 2025. The program employed a qualitative participatory approach involving educational workshops, practical safety demonstrations, emergency response simulations, collaborative discussions, and mentoring activities. Participants received training related to hazard identification, personal protective equipment usage, workplace communication, emergency preparedness, and safe operational behavior during exploration activities. The results demonstrated significant improvement in participants’ understanding of workplace hazards, safety procedures, risk prevention strategies, and emergency response preparedness. Participants also showed increased awareness regarding the importance of personal protective equipment and collective responsibility in maintaining workplace safety. In addition, collaborative discussions and practical simulations positively influenced participants’ communication skills, teamwork abilities, and confidence in applying occupational safety procedures during field operations. Despite challenges related to differences in educational backgrounds, traditional working habits, and limited previous safety training exposure, participatory educational methods and continuous mentoring contributed positively to strengthening safety awareness and responsible working behavior. Overall, the implementation of occupational safety training through PPM activities provided valuable opportunities for improving workplace preparedness, strengthening safety culture, and supporting sustainable community empowerment among exploration support workers in Banyuwangi.

Abstract

In an increasingly globalized world, intercultural communication skills have become essential competencies for university students who interact within culturally diverse academic, professional, and social environments. Higher education institutions are increasingly expected to prepare students for effective communication across cultural boundaries while fostering mutual understanding and cooperation. Multicultural education has emerged as an important educational approach for achieving these goals by promoting cultural awareness, empathy, respect, and intercultural competence. This study examines the impact of multicultural education on the development of intercultural communication skills among university students through a systematic literature review of contemporary scholarly research. The findings indicate that multicultural education significantly enhances students’ abilities to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds by strengthening cultural awareness, reducing stereotypes, improving empathy, and fostering openness toward diversity. Furthermore, multicultural educational experiences contribute to the development of inclusive attitudes and collaborative communication practices. The study proposes a conceptual framework illustrating how multicultural education influences intercultural communication through the mediating effects of cultural awareness and intercultural competence. The findings provide valuable implications for educators, policymakers, and higher education institutions seeking to strengthen students’ global communication capabilities.

Abstract

Corruption remains a persistent challenge that undermines social justice, public trust, democratic governance, and sustainable development across many societies. In response to these challenges, educational institutions play a crucial role in fostering ethical awareness and preventing corrupt behavior through character formation and value-based learning. This study explores the integration of anti-corruption values into Islamic education as a character-based framework for developing ethical citizenship in Turkey. Drawing upon the principles of Islamic ethics, character education, and civic responsibility, the study examines how values such as honesty, integrity, accountability, justice, discipline, responsibility, and social concern can be incorporated into educational practices to cultivate morally responsible citizens. Using a qualitative library research approach, data were collected from academic literature, policy documents, educational reports, and relevant studies on Islamic education and anti-corruption initiatives. The findings indicate that Islamic education provides a strong moral and spiritual foundation for promoting anti-corruption attitudes through the internalization of ethical values rooted in the Qur'an and Sunnah. Furthermore, character-based educational approaches encourage students to develop critical moral reasoning, social responsibility, and commitment to public welfare. The study also reveals that the integration of anti-corruption values is most effective when supported by curriculum development, teacher role modeling, institutional culture, and community engagement. In the Turkish context, where Islamic educational traditions continue to influence moral development and citizenship education, the incorporation of anti-corruption principles can contribute significantly to strengthening ethical citizenship and fostering a culture of integrity among younger generations. This study offers a conceptual framework that links Islamic education, character development, and anti-corruption education as complementary strategies for building ethical and responsible citizens in contemporary society.

Abstract

The growing global concern regarding environmental degradation, social inequality, poverty, climate change, and sustainable economic development has intensified the importance of education in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Educational institutions are increasingly expected to cultivate sustainability awareness, ethical responsibility, and behavioral transformation among students. In Turkey, where Islamic values continue to influence educational and social life, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) offers significant potential for supporting sustainability-oriented learning by integrating moral, ethical, social, and environmental dimensions aligned with the SDGs. This study explores the role of Islamic Religious Education in promoting sustainability values within educational settings in Turkey and examines its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Using a qualitative literature review approach, the study analyzes scholarly publications, educational reports, and theoretical discussions concerning Islamic education, sustainability, and SDGs implementation. The findings indicate that Islamic Religious Education positively contributes to sustainability awareness through teachings emphasizing stewardship (khalifah), justice (adl), moderation (wasatiyyah), compassion (rahmah), and social responsibility. Islamic educational practices support student understanding of environmental conservation, social equity, poverty reduction, ethical consumption, and community engagement, aligning closely with multiple SDGs objectives. However, challenges remain, including curriculum limitations, insufficient teacher preparedness, weak interdisciplinary integration, and varying institutional capacities. The study concludes that Islamic Religious Education can serve as an effective educational platform for promoting sustainability values and supporting SDGs achievement in Turkey when accompanied by curriculum innovation, teacher training, and stronger integration between religious ethics and sustainability education.

Abstract

Students' environmental awareness in schools that have implemented the Adiwiyata program still faces challenges, especially in the aspect of consistency in daily ecological behavior. The values of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) actually have a strong ecological foundation through the concepts of khalifah, amanah, and thaharah, but their internalization in student behavior has not been optimal. This study aims to: (1) describe the process of internalization of PAI values in building environmental awareness in SMP Negeri 2 Purwokerto; (2) analyze the role of social capital in the formation of a culture of environmental care; and (3) explain the supporting factors and obstacles to the internalization of environmental-based PAI values. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were obtained through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews with PAI teachers and 9C class students, and documentation of the school's environmental program. Data analysis was carried out through data condensation, data presentation, and thematic conclusion drawing with triangulation of sources and techniques. The results of the study indicate that the values of thaharah and khalifah fil ardh have become the basis for the formation of an environmental care culture. Bonding social capital is evident through teacher role models and the on-duty system; linking social capital is evident through inter-institutional Adiwiyata collaboration; while bridging social capital involving parents has not yet functioned optimally. This research shows that the success of Islamic Religious Education-based environmental education depends not only on the learning materials but also on social relations, role models, and a school culture that are built sustainably.
