Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) during pregnancy remains a major maternal nutrition problem associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to describe the sociodemographic and environmental characteristics of pregnant women with CED attending Independent Midwifery Practices in Panjang District, Bandar Lampung City. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 involving pregnant women identified with CED based on mid-upper arm circumference measurements of <23.5 cm. Total sampling was applied. Data were collected through interviewer-assisted structured questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and antenatal care record reviews. Descriptive analysis was performed using frequency and percentage distributions. The findings showed that CED occurred across various maternal age groups, including women aged 20–35 years. CED was more common among pregnant women with low educational attainment, informal employment, and low household income. Most respondents also had a history of CED or malnutrition, low body mass index, low protein intake frequency, infrequent consumption of nutrient-dense foods, inadequate antenatal care visits, limited family support, and exposure to secondhand smoke. In conclusion, CED among pregnant women was associated with multiple sociodemographic, nutritional, and environmental characteristics. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening nutritional monitoring, family support, and antenatal care services at the primary health care level to support maternal nutritional status during pregnancy.

Abstract

Successful breastfeeding significantly impacts the health of both mothers and infants. This study aims to analyze factors affecting breastfeeding success through a quantitative design incorporating bivariate and multivariate analyses. Data were collected from 90 breastfeeding mothers and analyzed using statistical tests. The results reveal that maternal age is a significant factor (p-value=0.007); mothers aged 20–35 are 1.6 times more likely to breastfeed successfully than those younger than 20 or older than 35. Maternal education also plays a critical role (p-value=0.002); mothers with higher education levels are 2.3 times more likely to succeed in breastfeeding than those with primary education. Employment status is another significant factor (p-value=0.013); non-working mothers are 1.8 times more likely to breastfeed successfully than working mothers. Parity also influences success (p-value=0.029); multiparous mothers are 1.2 times more likely to succeed than primiparous mothers. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions. Educational programs should prioritize mothers with primary or secondary education and those employed. Support mechanisms for working and primiparous mothers are crucial to address breastfeeding challenges. Policies such as extended maternity leave and workplace lactation facilities are also recommended to foster breastfeeding success. In conclusion, maternal age, education, employment status, and parity significantly impact breastfeeding outcomes. Tailored programs and supportive policies can improve breastfeeding rates and enhance maternal and infant health.

Abstract

In 2021, the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in Lampung Province increased significantly, rising from 115 to 187 cases compared to 2020. Bandar Lampung emerged as one of the areas with the fourth highest MMR, recording 15 cases (8.02%). This study aims to identify determinants of childbirth complications among mothers in Bandar Lampung in 2024. This type of research is analytical-descriptive, with random sampling, so that samples are obtained from 432 post-natal mothers. This research method uses interviews and observations of post-natal mothers analyzed through a quantitative cross-sectional approach with a random sampling of 432 participants. Results indicate a correlation between birth spacing (p=0.015, OR=2.725), history of pregnancy complications (p=0.000, OR=2.049), and parity (p=0.011, OR=1.764) with childbirth complications. Recommendations include improving healthcare services at the primary level and educating pregnant women and families on risk factors to reduce maternal mortality.

Abstract

The E-Kescatin application was developed as an innovation in premarital health services to support stunting prevention efforts through a digital approach. However, the effectiveness of utilization of this application still shows variations between regions and is not optimal at the implementation level. This study aims to explore the contextual factors that influence the effectiveness of the E-Kescatin application utilization in Pringsewu District, Lampung Province. The research used a qualitative approach with an exploratory study design. Informants were selected purposively, consisting of midwives, brides-to-be, Health Office officers, and MCH program managers. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Data analysis was done thematically with an interpretative approach. The results identified five main themes that influence the effectiveness of app utilization, namely: (1) accessibility of technology and digital infrastructure; (2) digital competence of health workers; (3) perceived benefits from the user side; (4) policy and regulatory support at the local level; and (5) cross-sector integration in the implementation of premarital services. It is concluded that the effectiveness of E-Kescatin application utilization is influenced by contextual factors that include technical, social, and institutional aspects. Therefore, improving the success of application implementation requires a collaborative and adaptive approach to local conditions. The findings of this study provide a significant contribution to strengthening digital transformation policies in the field of reproductive health.
