Abstract

Mosques in contemporary Muslim minority societies no longer function solely as places of worship but also serve as important centers for social empowerment, education, community development, and intercultural interaction. In Australia, mosques play strategic roles in supporting Muslim communities through educational activities, social services, youth development, interfaith dialogue, humanitarian assistance, and cultural integration within multicultural society. This study aims to analyze the role of mosques as centers for social empowerment and community education in Australia and examine their contribution to strengthening social cohesion, religious understanding, and multicultural coexistence. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review and contextual analysis of mosque activities, community development, and multicultural social dynamics in Australia. The findings indicate that mosques contribute significantly to religious education, social welfare, youth empowerment, family support, interfaith communication, and the preservation of Muslim identity within minority contexts. However, mosques also face challenges related to Islamophobia, funding limitations, generational differences, social integration, and negative public perceptions regarding Islam. The study emphasizes that strengthening inclusive educational programs, community participation, interfaith collaboration, and social outreach activities is essential for maximizing the positive role of mosques within Australian multicultural society. Therefore, mosques possess strong potential to function as constructive institutions promoting social harmony, education, and community empowerment in contemporary Australia.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of blended learning approaches on student achievement and motivation in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in Australia. The rapid advancement of educational technology and the increasing integration of digital platforms into classroom instruction have transformed teaching and learning practices across various disciplines, including religious education. Blended learning, which combines face-to-face instruction with online learning activities, has emerged as an innovative pedagogical model capable of enhancing student engagement, flexibility, and academic performance. In the context of Islamic Religious Education, blended learning offers opportunities to create interactive, student-centered, and culturally responsive learning environments that support both cognitive and affective learning outcomes. This study employs a qualitative literature-based approach by reviewing recent scholarly works related to blended learning, student motivation, and academic achievement in religious education settings. The findings indicate that blended learning contributes positively to students’ academic achievement by facilitating access to diverse learning resources, encouraging independent learning, and improving critical thinking skills. Furthermore, blended learning significantly enhances students’ learning motivation through interactive multimedia, collaborative online discussions, and flexible learning environments that accommodate students’ diverse learning needs. However, challenges such as limited technological infrastructure, digital literacy gaps among teachers and students, and difficulties in maintaining students’ spiritual engagement in online settings remain significant concerns. The study concludes that blended learning can serve as an effective instructional strategy in Islamic Religious Education in Australia when supported by adequate technological resources, teacher professional development, and pedagogical innovation. The research also highlights the importance of balancing technological integration with Islamic values and face-to-face spiritual interaction to ensure holistic educational development.

Abstract

Religious moderation is a perspective and attitude that places respect for religious, racial, ethnic, cultural, and cultural diversity as a primary principle in social life. This attitude not only emphasizes the importance of mutual respect but also prioritizes balance in interactions between differences. The goal is to strengthen interfaith unity, prevent social conflict, and maintain the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia as a pluralistic nation. In its application at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri 1 Banyumas, the values of religious moderation are realized through an attitude of mutual respect, appreciation, and non-discrimination between each other. This application aims to strengthen national unity, foster tolerance among diversity, build a humanitarian attitude, and create a peaceful and harmonious life. In addition, students are also taught to recognize and understand each other's differences, both in terms of culture, ethnicity, race, and other backgrounds so that a complete unity is formed. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach through interviews with the principal, social studies teachers, and students. The results show that MTs Negeri 1 Banyumas has integrated the values of religious moderation into the Madrasah curriculum so that students are accustomed to implementing attitudes of tolerance, mutual respect, and living side by side harmoniously amidst diversity.
