Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis can cause respiratory problems, significant weight loss, weakness, and even permanent reduction in lung capacity, even death. Pulmonary tuberculosis is the 10th leading cause of death in the world, with Indonesia being the second largest contributor (1.09 million cases) to the total tuberculosis burden. This disease remains a significant health problem, marked by the high incidence rate in various regions, one of which is at Aisyiyah Hospital Pariaman with the highest incidence rate in 2024 of 104 cases. This study aims to understand and provide nursing care to patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. The research method used is a case study conducted by means of observation, interviews, physical examinations and documentation studies, and nursing care was carried out in the Muzdalifah Room, Aisyiyah Hospital, Pariaman City, from February 24, 2026 to February 28, 2026, with 1 patient, namely Mrs. J. After 5 days of nursing care, six nursing problems were identified: ineffective airway clearance, hypovolemia, hyperthermia, nutritional deficits, unstable blood glucose levels, and the risk of infection. Implementation included airway management, effective coughing exercises, hypovolemia management, hyperthermia management, nutritional management, hyperglycemia management, and infection prevention. The results showed an improvement in the patient's health after receiving nursing care. Future efforts to improve education, treatment monitoring, and cross-sectoral collaboration are needed to effectively eradicate pulmonary tuberculosis.
