Abstract

Digital transformation in education encourages the integration of technology in science learning to support the development of 21st-century skills, one of which is creative thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the improvement of students’ creative thinking skills through the implementation of science learning assisted by an interactive e-book on the subtopic of Nutrition in Food. This study employed a pre-experimental research design using the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 23 eighth-grade students of SMP Piri 1 Yogyakarta selected using a saturated sampling technique. Data were collected using an essay-based creative thinking skills test covering the aspects of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with n-gain calculation. The results showed that the implementation of science learning assisted by an interactive e-book was able to improve students’ creative thinking skills. The n-gain results indicated that 3 students were categorized as high and 20 students were categorized as moderate. Improvements also occurred in each aspect of creative thinking skills, namely fluency by 30.5%, flexibility by 18.9%, originality by 26.1%, and elaboration by 22.3%. The use of interactive e-books in science learning was able to create a more engaging, interactive, and flexible learning experience, thereby supporting the development of students’ creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Innovations in science education continue to develop, one of which is STEM-based learning. This learning can be combined with virtual laboratory media, such as the PhET simulation, which can develop students' skills. Currently, the students' skills that can deal with energy problems that occur in Indonesia are energy literacy. Therefore, this study aims to identify students' energy literacy achievement in STEM-based learning with PhET simulations. This study is a quasi-experiment with a one-group posttest-only design. The sample in this study was 127 selected by random sampling technique. The data analysis technique used is descriptive quantitative to analyze and determine students' energy literacy achievement category. The results indicate that STEM-based learning with PhET simulations is able to train students' energy literacy to a good category with an average value of 71.74 with details of cognitive domains of 52, affective of 85.33, and behavioral of 78. This is due to STEM-based learning with PhET simulations allows students to be more active and creative in understanding concepts, especially those that are more abstract. The aspects most influenced by STEM-based learning with PhET simulations are basic energy knowledge in the cognitive domain, responsibility in the affective domain, and energy-saving behavior in the behavioral domain.

Abstract

Water spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir.) is a leafy vegetable that is highly nutritious and has the potential to be cultivated using a hydroponic system with environmentally friendly organic fertilizers. This study aims to determine the effect of fermentation duration and the combination of goat manure biofertilizer with AB Mix on the growth of water spinach (Ipomoea reptans Poir.) in a hydroponic system. The biofertilizer was fermented for 7, 14, and 21 days, then applied to various treatment combinations. The results showed that 7-day fermentation produced the best results in the P125AB75 treatment, with an average leaf width of 1.60 ± 0.56 cm and leaf length of 5.37 ± 1.05 cm. Fourteen-day fermentation produced optimal growth in the P20AB100 treatment with a leaf width of 2.13 ± 0.15 cm and a leaf length of 5.35 ± 0.59 cm. Meanwhile, 21 days of fermentation showed the most significant results in the P30AB100 treatment with a leaf width of 2.30 ± 0.10 cm and a leaf length of 6.45 ± 0.46 cm. Increasing the fermentation period was proven to improve nutrient availability, enrich active metabolites, and stabilize organic compounds, thereby supporting more optimal vegetative growth of water spinach compared to pure manure. Thus, liquid biofertilizer from 21-day fermentation, especially in the P30AB100 combination, is the best treatment for enhancing water spinach growth in hydroponic systems.
