Abstract

Quality is an important factor in determining business success, poor quality can cause consumers to look for other products. Good product quality depends on a good production process between human factors, machines, and the methods used. But it is undeniable that these factors are also a waste in a production process and have an effect on the production results produced. This study aims to improve production quality and reduce defect levels in the exhaust manufacturing process at PT. GKS. The main problem faced by the company is the high defect rate, averaging 5.71% during the period of October 2024 to August 2025. The dominant defects include dented silencers, damaged pipes, cracked bowls, and drilling defects. To address this issue, the research applied the Lean Six Sigma methodology through the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) as an error-proofing system. The results of the 2-week implementation study showed that the Defects Per Million Opportunities value (DPMO) decreased from 57,075 to 56,455, and the sigma level improved from 3.07 to 3.79, DPMO value decreased from 57.075 to 56.455, the sigma value increased from 3.07 to 3.79, and the process efficiency (PCE) increased from 46.15% to 49.2%indicating a significant enhancement in production process quality. The implementation of improvement measures such as production checksheets, One Point Lessons (OPL), and operator training successfully reduced defects and increased efficiency. Overall, the application of Lean Six Sigma proved effective in minimizing waste, stabilizing processes, and improving product quality at PT. GKS.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the influence of Human Resource Research and Development (HR R&D) on the performance of building management at Menara Kanaya, Nuansa Cilangkap, using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach and Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data were collected from 215 respondents consisting of building managers, operational staff, and residents through questionnaires, field observations, and short interviews. The BSC assessment shows that the overall management performance is at a moderately good level, with the highest score in the Learning and Growth perspective (3.4), followed by Customer (3.0), Internal Process (2.9), and Financial (2.8). SEM-PLS analysis indicates that HR R&D has a significant positive effect on the Financial perspective (β = 0.896; p = 0.000) and Internal Process perspective (β = 0.479; p = 0.000), but does not significantly influence the Customer perspective. These findings highlight that training and development enhance operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness, yet the improvements are not directly perceived by residents. Overall, the study confirms that HR development plays a strategic role in improving building management performance and that the Balanced Scorecard serves as an effective framework for evaluating organizational performance in public service facilities.

Abstract

The current state of the manufacturing industry demands that businesses continuously optimize their production processes. In reality, many activities still do not contribute to product added value, potentially leading to various forms of inefficiency. This situation has a negative impact in the form of increased production costs, decreased productivity levels, and extended duration required to complete the production process. The purpose of this study was to detect the categories of waste occurring in the candle production process and to design recommendations for improvements that can be implemented by the company. The study was conducted using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) as a tool for mapping material flows, Process Cycle Efficiency (PCE) to measure the extent to which process efficiency has been achieved, and the Waste Assessment Model (WAM) to determine the dominant waste categories. The research findings indicate that defects are the most common type of waste. The main triggers are unstable temperature settings, inconsistent raw material quantities, and incorrect wick installation. Based on the results of the investigation using the 5 Whys analysis and the 5W+1H approach, the implementation of the 5S and the Kanban system is recommended as concrete steps to reduce waste and encourage increased operational efficiency and product quality.
