Abstract

Art education plays a vital role in fostering students’ creativity and innovation.However, its implementation in elementary schools remains suboptimal, particularly in integrating global and local contexts. This study aims to describe the implementation of art education in fostering creativity and innovation among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 196 Palembang. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that art instruction has been implemented effectively and aligns with the student-centered merdeka Curriculum. Student creativity is evident in their works, which demonstrate variations in color, form, and ideas. However, the aspects of innovation and integration of global contexts remain suboptimal due to limitations in media and teaching methods. In conclusion, art education contributes to enhancing students’creativity and innovation; however, there is a need to strengthen the integration of global contexts and develop more innovative teaching strategies.
