Abstract

This research aims to examine syntactic development in children, especially in mastering sentences formed by children. The approach used is qualitative with a case study method, through systematic observation of language acquisition in Indonesian-English bilingual children. This research relies on the understanding that the syntactic development of bilingual children has unique characteristics, including the potential for transfer between languages that can influence sentence use patterns. The main focus is to identify the stages of syntactic development, from single-word utterances to complex sentences, as well as comparing the dynamics of first language (L1) and second language (L2) acquisition. The main data source in this research is a child named Mayesa Hafsah Kirana (MHK), the first daughter of the couple Retno Hening and Tatang, who studied the first and second languages simultaneously in a bilingual environment. This child grew up in a family environment that supported the consistent use of Indonesian and English, which allowed this research to explore the process of language acquisition in depth. Apart from that, the selection of subjects also takes into account the socio-cultural background that enriches the research context. Data was collected using three main instruments, namely notebooks, video recordings of Kirana telling stories, and interview results. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. To analyze the data, researchers translated the words spoken into Indonesian with the help of a dictionary, especially for utterances that were ambiguous or unclear. The analysis technique used is an interactive analysis model. The results of the research show that the development of MHK language syntax in Indonesian and English is balanced, with transfer in the process of syntactic development.

Abstract

This research describes children’s language acquisition (L2), especially Indonesian, which is influenced by their mother tongue (B1), namely the regional language. This research is included in qualitative research using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data obtained in this research is linguistic data regarding language acquisition. The focus of this research is children’s language acquisition, especially Indonesian, which is influenced by their mother tongue and regional languages. Samples were collected from two geographically different areas. Namely the people of Jepara city and the people of Solo city. This research uses documentation techniques for data collection. The documents analyzed in this research are the languages that are dominant in Jepara and Solo society and are related to the acquisition of Indonesian. The validity of the data used is determined by theoretical triangulation. Data analysis in this research consists of several elements, namely data reduction or data selection (data selection and sorting), data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this research are that children’s language acquisition (L2) is largely error-free and error-free. This is because children are still influenced by their mother tongue (B1). The mother tongue influences the correct and appropriate pronunciation of Indonesian (B2). This error usually occurs in Indonesian words that are similar to mother tongue vocabulary (B1).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain how social media plays a role in early childhood language learning at Pertiwi 1 Dermaji Kindergarten. This study used a qualitative descriptive research method. In this study, the sample was determined using data collection techniques that focused on specific objectives. The data used came from sources or informants, such as class teachers and several parents of Pertiwi 1 Dermaji Kindergarten students. Data collection was carried out using detailed interview techniques, observation, and document or archive searches. In this study, we utilized interactive data analysis techniques, such as data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. From the results of the study, it was revealed that the acquisition of a second language by Pertiwi 1 Dermaji Kindergarten students was supported by constant interaction in the family environment, as well as the positive impact of the development of social media which is currently growing.
