Abstract

Operating globally as a critical public health threat is maternal anemia, with suboptimal adherence to prescribed iron tablet supplementation standing out as a primary barrier to its gestational prevention. Fulfilling an indispensable frontline function are community health volunteers, who drive maternal wellness through community-based health education, structured home visits, and continuous interpersonal support engineered to maximize micronutrient compliance. This investigation was specifically designed to examine the epidemiological association connecting the operational role of community health volunteers to iron tablet supplementation adherence among pregnant women within the Ranomuut Community Health Center service area in Manado, Indonesia. Utilizing an analytical observational framework with a cross-sectional approach, the trial enrolled 68 pregnant women via purposive sampling. Compiled using structured close-ended instruments, the data were processed via descriptive statistics and the non-parametric Kendall's tau-b correlation model. Symmetrically distributed across the dataset was cadre support, with exactly 50.0% of respondents receiving active assistance, whereas a 55.9% prevalence of strict iron tablet compliance was quantified. Unmasked via Kendall's tau-b analysis was a statistically significant, moderate positive association linking cadre engagement directly to maternal compliance (; ). Consequently, established by these findings is the reality that the institutional reinforcement of community health volunteers serves as a powerful mechanism to expand micronutrient compliance and mitigate gestational anemia risks.

Abstract

The Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) represents a highly efficient natural postpartum contraceptive modality; however, its widespread clinical utilization is heavily restricted by suboptimal maternal health literacy. Institutionalized pregnancy classes offer an ideal pedagogical opportunity to expand maternal comprehension of postpartum family planning utilizing structured healthcare education frameworks. This investigation aimed to evaluate the definitive effect of pregnancy classes on cognitive awareness regarding the Lactational Amenorrhea Method among third-trimester pregnant women at Health Polyclinic 13.10.01 Manado. A quasi-experimental study incorporating an parallel intervention and control group architecture was executed involving 50 third-trimester gestating women captured via an exhaustive total sampling paradigm. Empirical data were collected via a validated structured questionnaire designed to isolate LAM knowledge levels and subsequently processed using descriptive metrics and the non-parametric Mann–Whitney U test. The univariate output demonstrated a mean cognitive score of 61.90 ± 9.14, with 44.0% of respondents clustering within the moderate knowledge classification, 30.0% demonstrating good literacy, and 26.0% presenting with a poor understanding of the method. Inferential modeling revealed a statistically significant disparity in literacy parameters between the experimental and control arms (U = 204.000; Z = –2.256; p = 0.024). These findings confirm that pregnancy classes act as an effective non-pharmacological vehicle to optimize maternal understanding of the Lactational Amenorrhea Method, suggesting they should be seamlessly integrated into routine antenatal care systems to strengthen early postpartum reproductive counseling and support autonomous contraceptive decisions.

Abstract

Operating as a primary barrier to successful exclusive breastfeeding compliance during the puerperium is insufficient breast milk production. Rich in proteins, non-heme iron, bioavailable calcium, vitamins, and localized bioactive molecules, Moringa oleifera leaves function as a potent botanical agent capable of stimulating lactation while rehabilitating maternal nutritional reserves. This investigation was engineered to evaluate the clinical impact of an innovative moringa leaf pudding matrix on breast milk production trajectories among postpartum mothers. Utilizing a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest approach, the trial enrolled 30 postpartum mothers via purposive sampling to consume the formulation once daily for 14 consecutive days. Assessed across longitudinal tracking intervals via standardized indicators of breast milk adequacy, the compiled data were processed using descriptive statistics and the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Documented across the empirical dataset was an upshift in the mean breast milk production score from  mL/session at baseline to a post-test peak of  mL/session, unmasking a highly significant statistical improvement (). Consequently, established by these findings is the reality that Moringa oleifera leaf pudding represents an exceptionally effective, economically accessible, and locally viable complementary nutritional intervention to systematically optimize postpartum lactogenesis.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains one of the most significant public health problems worldwide because it contributes to adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Reproductive factors, particularly parity and pregnancy interval, are considered important determinants that may influence maternal iron status and the occurrence of anemia. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parity and pregnancy interval with the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 38 pregnant women as respondents. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis to describe respondent characteristics, the Chi-Square test to examine the relationships between variables, and ordinal regression analysis to identify the most influential factor associated with the severity of anemia. The results showed that most respondents were aged 20–35 years, had completed senior high school education, were housewives, and experienced mild anemia. Both parity and pregnancy interval were significantly associated with the incidence of anemia based on bivariate analysis. However, multivariate analysis demonstrated that parity was the most dominant factor influencing the severity of anemia, whereas pregnancy interval was not statistically significant after adjustment. These findings indicate that maternal reproductive characteristics, particularly parity, play an important role in the occurrence of anemia during pregnancy. Therefore, incorporating reproductive history into routine antenatal care, together with early nutritional assessment and appropriate family planning counseling, may improve early identification of high-risk pregnancies and support more effective strategies to reduce maternal anemia and improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Manado City remains below the national target, with a rate of 58.7% compared to the target of 80%. Approximately 47.4% of postpartum mothers in the postpartum ward of Robert Wolter Mongisidi Level II Hospital Manado reported insufficient breast milk production. Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) contains phytoestrogens, beta-carotene, and other nutrients that may stimulate prolactin hormone activity to support increased breast milk production. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of local sweet potato consumption on increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers at Robert Wolter Mongisidi Level II Hospital Manado in 2026. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a pre-test post-test control group approach. A total of 34 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests with a significance level of a = 0.05. Results: The mean breast milk production increased from 38.24 ml to 67.47 ml after the intervention, representing an increase of 29.23 ml (76.4 persen). The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference with a p-value of 0.001, and the Mann-Whitney test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Local sweet potato consumption significantly increased breast milk production among postpartum mothers at Robert Wolter Mongisidi Level II Hospital Manado.
