Abstract

Rapid population growth increases need in various sectors, including infrastructure development. In Indonesia, infrastructure development is expected to improve people's welfare, although it often contributes to significant environmental changes, from the construction to operational stages. Construction projects use limited natural resources and have negative impacts on the environment, such as reduced open space and pollution from heavy equipment and transportation. To reduce this negative impact, it is necessary to apply the concept of environmentally friendly development, namely green construction. This concept emphasizes energy efficiency, use of environmentally friendly materials, good water management and work safety. This research aims to analyze the application of green construction criteria in the implementation of construction development in Gorontalo City and identify the most dominant criteria applied. The data collection method uses a survey by distributing questionnaires to construction actors. Data analysis uses descriptive statistical methods and a ranking system. The research results show that water and energy efficiency are the most dominant criteria applied, with a percentage of 80%, especially in maximizing the use of sunlight to reduce electricity use.

Abstract

The Language Office Building Construction Project in Gorontalo Province primarily focuses on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), aiming to prevent work accidents, injuries, or illnesses caused by factors such as machinery, chemicals, the work environment, and human actions. this study aimed to identify potential hazards, asses the risk of work accidents, and analyze preventive measures for accidents during the formwork installation activities. The methodology employed was a semiquantitave risk analysis method, referencing AS/NZS 4360:2004, and the data were analyze using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Based on the data analysis, identifying potential hazards and the risk of work accident in the formwork installation, reinforcing, and concrete pouring activities at the Language Office Building revealed that only a few hazards were deemed acceptable. This was attributed to a lack of awareness regarding using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and limited knowledge about workplace safety, despite the availability of PPE. The preventive action identified in the study fell into the “Substantial” risk category, with a risk value of 90, which could be reduced to “acceptable” levels through control such as providing shock absorbers, conducting biannual medical check-ups, and enhancing supervision and worker awareness regarding the proper use of PPE.

Abstract

Efficient scheduling methods are crucial in housing construction projects to minimize delays and optimize time management. This study investigates the impact of scheduling methods on project duration, highlighting the inefficiencies caused by mismatches between scheduling techniques and project characteristics. The research focuses on implementing the Linear Scheduling Method (LSM) for housing project scheduling and comparing it with conventional scheduling methods. LSM is particularly effective for repetitive construction projects, as it enables continuous work progression and minimizes task interference. By systematically organizing workgroups and sequencing activities, LSM ensures smoother workflow transitions and reduces idle time. A case study on the Citra Agrindo III Housing Project reveals that using LSM significantly improves time efficiency. The completion time is reduced from 384 days to 207 days, demonstrating a remarkable 177-day reduction compared to the existing scheduling approach. The findings highlight LSM's advantages in managing project timelines more effectively by streamlining workflow, preventing overlapping activities, and optimizing resource allocation. This research underscores the importance of selecting appropriate scheduling methods based on project characteristics to achieve better efficiency. The application of LSM in housing project scheduling proves to be a more effective approach, offering substantial time savings and improved project execution. Future research can further explore LSM’s adaptability across different construction project scales and complexities to enhance its implementation in the industry.

Abstract

Reinforcement steel is one of the most expensive materials in building construction projects, accounting for approximately 20%-25% of the total cost. Poor management of this material can lead to significant finansial losses. This research aims to analye the dominant diameters of reinforcement steel that contribute to material waste, estimate the cost of the resulting waste, and identify the factors causing reinforcement steel waste. The research utilized primary data obtained through observation and direct interviews with project implementers, as well as secondary data in the form of shop drawings and budget plans (RAB) to calculate and analyze the percentage of reinforcement steel material waste. The results indicate that the dominant reinforcement steel diameters constributing to material waste based on cost estimation using the Pareto diagram are ribbed steel bars with 19 mm, 16 mm, and 13 mm diameters. The total estimated cost factor contributing to the waste is miscalculation in the estimation of reinforcement volume.

Abstract

The Domestic Component Level (TKDN) policy plays a crucial role in enhancing national industrial competitiveness, reducing import dependency, and stimulating economic growth in Indonesia. This study analyzes the TKDN implementation in the construction project of the Technical Implementation Unit of the State Civil Service Agency (UPT BKN) Gorontalo to evaluate the contribution of local materials, labor, and equipment to project costs. This research adopts a quantitative descriptive approach by collecting secondary data from project documents, including material specifications, unit price analyses (AHSP), and budget plans. The TKDN calculation follows Regulation of the Ministry of Industry No. 16/M-IND/PER/2/2011, focusing on three key components: materials, labor, and equipment. The findings indicate that the project achieved a TKDN value of 55.57%, exceeding the government’s minimum requirement of 25%. Local materials such as mortar, sand, and lightweight bricks, along with the full engagement of Indonesian workers (100% TKDN), significantly contributed to this outcome. However, imported heavy equipment and mechanical components remain a challenge. The study highlights that optimizing domestic products and workforce utilization in construction projects effectively strengthens national industrial independence. Recommendations include simplifying TKDN certification, increasing local production capacity, and fostering technology transfer through international collaboration.

Abstract

Material is one of the most crucial resources in the construction implementation process. However, the occurrence of material waste not only fails to contribute added value to the project scope but can also lead to significant financial losses for the project implementer. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause material waste in the construction project of UPT BKN Gorontalo. The research focuses on several contributing aspects, including design, procurement, handling, implementation, residuals, and other unexpected factors, as well as efforts to minimize material waste. A combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches was employed, involving field surveys, participatory observations, secondary data analysis, and the distribution of questionnaires to contractors and consultants directly involved in the project. The data were then processed using SPSS software to determine the significance and strength of the influence of each variable. The results showed that among the seven variables analyzed, three had a significant effect on material waste: handling (X3), implementation (X4), and other factors (X6). Meanwhile, variables such as design, procurement, residuals, and minimizing material waste did not show a statistically significant effect. Furthermore, the correlation analysis indicated that the variable "other factors" had the strongest relationship with material waste, followed by implementation and handling. The findings of this research are expected to serve as a reference for improving material management in future construction projects to reduce waste and enhance efficiency.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of scheduling methods on time efficiency in housing construction projects, focusing on the problem of delays caused by inappropriate scheduling techniques. In many projects, the lack of alignment between the chosen scheduling method and the repetitive nature of construction activities often results in overlapping work, idle time, and inefficient resource allocation. To address this issue, the study applies the Line of Balance (LoB) method to the Griya Aulia Permai Housing Project and compares its effectiveness with the conventional scheduling method currently in use. The LoB method is particularly suitable for projects involving repetitive tasks, such as housing developments, where similar units are built sequentially. By arranging work in a continuous and balanced manner, LoB minimizes disruptions and idle periods between different work groups. Each trade can proceed smoothly without waiting for others to finish, ensuring optimal workflow across project stages. Analysis of the Griya Aulia Permai project reveals a significant improvement in scheduling efficiency. Under the existing method, the project duration was planned for 480 days. However, using the LoB approach, the total construction time was reduced to only 289 days, representing a time saving of 191 days. This reduction not only improves productivity but also has positive implications for project cost control and client satisfaction. In conclusion, adopting the LoB method in housing construction scheduling offers a more efficient and systematic approach, making it highly recommended for projects with repetitive construction elements to ensure timely completion and enhanced resource utilization.

Abstract

Delays in project execution can be addressed through project control techniques such as the crash method, which aims to accelerate project duration without significantly increasing costs. This study investigates the application of the crash method in the acceleration of a Type B Terminal construction project (Phase 1) to evaluate its impact on project duration and cost. The research employs a quantitative descriptive approach, combining literature review and field observation. Data collection includes the original project schedule and cost information, followed by critical path analysis using the Critical Path Method (CPM). Based on the identified critical activities, the study applies crash analysis by reducing the duration of critical tasks and adding overtime hours, then compares various scenarios to determine the most cost-effective acceleration strategy. The results reveal that an additional 4 hours of overtime is the most efficient option, reducing the project duration by 43% while incurring the lowest total cost of Rp 3,860,600,576.59. This finding highlights that proper application of the crash method can lead to substantial time savings with manageable cost implications. In conclusion, the crash method proves to be an effective strategy for project time optimization when supported by accurate scheduling, cost analysis, and critical activity identification. The study recommends further research to validate these findings across different types of infrastructure projects using updated specifications.
