Abstract

This paper discusses the improvement of fifth-grade students’ understanding of Pancasila values by developing the e-NIPA (Edukasi Nilai Pancasila) application, which is an android application that is appropriate for students’ interests and abilities. This application can be operated by students without using an internet network. Theresearch was conducted because the fifth-grade students did not understand Pancasila values in elementary school. The method used in the research is the R&D (Research and Development) method with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) development model. The research was conducted on fifth-grade students, which consisted of 21 students in one of the elementary schools in Sumedang City. The results of the research indicate that this product is feasible to use after applying the validation by media and material experts in the very good category with a percentage of 95.5%. The results of the research on the research subjects were processed using the Paired Sample T-test by comparing the results of the students’ average pretest and posttest scores, which begins with conducting a normality test on the data. The results imply that the data were normally distributed and there was a difference between the average students’ pretest and posttest scores and it was obtained that the students’ average scores increased at 38% based on N-gain. It implies that the e-NIPA application can improve students’ understanding of the values of Pancasila.

Abstract

Conveying ideas is needed to direct mathematical communication skills. In fact, mathematical communication abilities are indicated not to be maximized. Several conditions imply that the students' mathematical communication skills are less than optimal, one of which is teacher-based learning. In this paper, the research was conducted specifically to measure the improvement of students' abilities in mathematical communication by applying the AIR model to data processing learning material. The research was conducted using a quasi- experimental method with the Nonequivalent Control Group design. The results of the initial and final tests of students' mathematical communication skills indicate an improvement. The students at Grade V of SD Negeri Pataruman and SD Negeri Darmaraja I were the control and experimental classes for the research sample. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the data analysis indicate that the students’ mathematical communication skill average score of the experimental class applying the AIR model was higher than the control class score by applying conventional learning. In the experimental class, the average score of mathematical communication skills was 43,34% in medium interpretation. Meanwhile, in the control class, the average score was 13,06% with a low interpretation. The description implies that the treatment in the experimental and control classes improves the students' mathematical communication skills differently.

Abstract

The low concept mastery possessed by students influences learning outcomes that are often far from the standard of assessment, especially in natural science learning subjects. The research described in this article is generally aimed to develop digital comic learning media that could build the students' concept mastery. The research used a quantitative approach with quantitative-descriptive methods. The method used was Research and Development (R&D), which is a scientific method to obtain data so that it could be used to produce, develop, and validate products. Digital comic as learning media was first developed through a product validation that involved material and media experts to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of the product. Then, digital comic products were tested to determine the students' concept mastery after participating in learning activities. The participants of the research involved 23 fifth-grade students in one of the public elementary schools in Karimun Riau Islands. The results showed that digital comics were appropriate and effective to be used as learning media that could help teachers in natural science learning subject activities. The learning media of digital comics could also improve the fifth-grade students' concept mastery as evidenced by the improvement of students’ learning outcomes.
