Abstract

This study aims to examine Muslim women's views on the urgency of financial independence, the meaning of the concept of fitrah in Islamic teachings, and the challenges of patriarchal culture in the modern era. This study employed a mixed methods approach, with data collection conducted through an online questionnaire distributed to 62 female respondents and in-depth interviews with three informants from varying social backgrounds. The results indicate that the majority of respondents view financial independence not only as important but also as a form of self-protection in the face of future uncertainty. Women's success is now defined beyond the institution of marriage to encompass personal achievement and professional careers. Respondents also believe that women's fitrah is not limited to a purely domestic role; seeking knowledge and working are seen as manifestations of worship. On the other hand, patriarchal culture and negative stigmas against ambitious women still persist in society. However, most respondents use this gender bias as a strong motivation to achieve and prove their abilities without having to abandon Islamic values.
