Abstract

This study aims to identify the patterns of symbolic violence perpetrated by students against teachers at SMPN 281 Jakarta and how teachers respond to it. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through observation and in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted in stages, namely through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validation was carried out using the member check technique. The results of the study show that the forms of symbolic violence at SMPN 281 Jakarta include neglect, verbal abuse, and passive resistance. The teachers' responses to this violence varied. Some teachers felt disappointed because the students did not respect them while they were teaching. There were also teachers who experienced a decline in enthusiasm, although they later overcame this with self-motivation and pedagogical reflection. There were also those who considered this a challenge for teachers to improve their teaching methods, impose religious punishments, and take a personal approach to students. This study concludes that symbolic violence occurs subtly and often unconsciously, eliciting emotional responses and prompting teachers to develop strategies to address it.
