Abstract

This study aims to describe parental involvement in supporting children’s participation in the Sunday Worship Service for Children (IHMPA) at GPIB Sejahtera Surabaya, identify the barriers encountered, and examine the impact of such involvement on children’s participation. The study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving parents, children in the program, older siblings in the program, and the PA Ministry Advisory Board. The results indicate that parental involvement manifests through various forms of support, such as preparing and accompanying children to worship, providing motivation, reminding them of activity schedules, supporting spiritual activities, and setting an example in their faith-based lives. Children’s participation is evident through their attendance and active involvement in various IHMPA activities. This study also found that parental involvement influences children’s attendance, active participation, self-confidence, and spiritual growth. However, such involvement still faces several obstacles, such as work commitments, fatigue, and schedule conflicts with family or social activities. This study concludes that parental involvement plays a crucial role in supporting children’s participation in IHMPA activities. Therefore, ongoing collaboration between parents, the PA Ministry Team, and the church is necessary to support children’s spiritual growth.
