Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a reproductive health problem commonly experienced by female students and can affect quality of life, mental health, and academic activities. This study aims to analyze the effect of carrot juice and commercial herbal drinks on reducing theseverity of dysmenorrhea and to compare the effectiveness of both interventions among Public Health students at Gorontalo State University.This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design using a pre-and post-test without a control group. The study population consisted of 161 active female students from the 2022 cohort, with a sample of 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling and divided into two treatment groups. The research instrument used was the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to measure menstrual pain intensity before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using paired sample t-test andindependent sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05.The results showed that both carrot juice and commercial herbal drinks significantly reduced the severity of dysmenorrhea, with p-values of 0.000 for each intervention. The average reduction in pain in the carrot juice group was 2.800, while in the commercial herbal drink group it was 2.933. However, there was no significant difference in effectiveness between the two interventions, with a p-value of 0.513.This study concludes that both carrot juice and commercial herbal drinks are equally effective as non-pharmacological alternatives in reducing the severity of dysmenorrhea among female students.
