Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the use of English songs is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 31 students of class VIII-D at SMPN 1 Diwek, Jombang, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. The instrument used in this study was a vocabulary test administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test using SPSS. The findings revealed that the mean score of the pre-test was 55.32, while the mean score of the post-test increased to 78.45. The significance value (p = 0.000) was lower than 0.05, indicating a significant difference between students’ scores before and after the treatment. Therefore, it can be concluded that English songs are effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery.
