Abstract

A competitive information society is characterized by complex and rapidly evolving data flows, requiring individuals not only to access information but also to critically sort, evaluate, and utilize it. Global phenomena such as the COVID-19 infodemic demonstrate how low levels of information literacy can accelerate the spread of disinformation. In Indonesia, the high social media usage exceeding three hours per day further increases the risk of information bias. This study aims to analyze the urgency of information literacy in addressing the dynamic information needs of individuals in a competitive information society, positioning literacy as both an adaptive skill and a strategic competence. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, drawing on journal articles, books, and relevant reports. The findings indicate that information literacy functions as an essential adaptive skill across education, work, and social contexts, while also serving as a strategic tool to enhance competitiveness, support evidence-based decision-making, and build resilience against misinformation
