Abstract

Background: Hand hygiene is a fundamental component of infection prevention and control in healthcare settings. Proper hand hygiene practices play an essential role in reducing the transmission of microorganisms, preventing healthcare-associated infections, and improving patient safety. Nurses are among the healthcare professionals who interact most frequently with patients, making their compliance with hand hygiene procedures crucial in maintaining quality healthcare services. Despite the availability of guidelines and infection prevention programs, compliance with hand hygiene practices remains a challenge in many healthcare facilities. Various individual and environmental factors may influence nurses’ adherence to hand hygiene recommendations. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with nurses’ compliance in performing hand hygiene in the surgical ward.Methodology: This study employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of nurses working in the surgical ward, and respondents were selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through structured questionnaires that assessed respondents’ characteristics, knowledge, availability of facilities, workload, and hand hygiene compliance. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test.Research Results: The findings showed that knowledge, availability of facilities, and workload were significantly associated with nurses’ compliance in performing hand hygiene. Nurses with better knowledge, adequate facilities, and manageable workloads tended to demonstrate higher levels of compliance. In contrast, length of service and gender were not significantly associated with hand hygiene compliance. Conclusion: Nurses’ compliance with hand hygiene is influenced by both individual and organizational factors. Improving knowledge through continuous education, ensuring the availability of adequate facilities, and managing workload effectively are important strategies to enhance hand hygiene compliance. Strengthening these aspects may contribute to better infection prevention practices and improved quality of patient care.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is one of the major health problems among adults and can lead to various complications if not properly controlled. Physical activity and smoking habits are important factors that may influence blood pressure levels and the severity of hypertension. The prevalence of hypertension in Indonesia remains high, reaching approximately 36%, while the Indonesian Basic Health Research reported a prevalence of 34.1%. This condition indicates that hypertension continues to be a significant public health concern requiring effective prevention and control of its risk factors. Objectives: To determine the relationship between physical activity and smoking habits with the degree of hypertension among adults at Ciracas Community Health Center, East Jakarta.Method: This study employed a quantitative research design with an observational analytic approach using a cross-sectional method. A total of 88 adult patients with hypertension were selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using the latest blood pressure records classified according to the Joint National Committee 7 (JNC 7), the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) to assess physical activity levels, and the Glover–Nilsson Smoking Behaviour Questionnaire to evaluate smoking habits. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test.Result: The results showed that most respondents had moderate physical activity levels (39.8%), did not have smoking habits (70.5%), and experienced stage 1 hypertension (61.4%). Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between physical activity and the degree of hypertension (p < 0.05). However, smoking habits were not significantly associated with the degree of hypertension (p > 0.05).Conclution: Physical activity is significantly associated with the degree of hypertension among adults, whereas smoking habits are not significantly related to hypertension severity. Regular physical activity may contribute to better blood pressure control and reduced hypertension severity. Therefore, healthcare professionals, particularly nurses, should strengthen health promotion and preventive programs by providing education and motivation to encourage patients to engage in regular physical activity.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with a high prevalence in Indonesia. The prevalence of hypertension among individuals aged 18 years and older increased from 25.8% in 2013 to 34.1% in 2018. Effective hypertension management requires adherence to a hypertension diet; however, dietary compliance remains low and is influenced by various factors, including family support. Family support plays an important role in encouraging healthy behaviors and improving adherence to dietary recommendations among patients with hypertension. Objectives: To determine the relationship between family support and adherence to a hypertension diet with the degree of hypertension among adult patients in the working area of the Cilodong Depok Community Health Center.Method: This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Cilodong Community Health Center involving 91 adult patients with hypertension selected through accidental sampling based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Family Support Scale (FSS) questionnaire, a hypertension diet adherence questionnaire, and blood pressure measurements using a sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square statistical test.Result: The results showed a significant relationship between family support and adherence to a hypertension diet among adult patients with hypertension (p < 0.05). Respondents who received good family support were 23.131 times more likely to adhere to a hypertension diet compared to those with poor family support (OR = 23.131). Furthermore, family support and diet adherence were significantly associated with the degree of hypertension. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family support and adherence to a hypertension diet with the degree of hypertension among adult patients in the working area of the Cilodong Depok Community Health Center. Strengthening family involvement may improve dietary adherence and contribute to better hypertension control.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension remains a major global health problem with a continuously increasing prevalence. In 2024, approximately 1.4 billion people worldwide were estimated to have hypertension. In Indonesia, around 51.3 million individuals aged 30-79 years suffer from hypertension, while in DKI Jakarta there were 923,451 reported cases. Unhealthy dietary habits and insufficient physical activity are among the primary risk factors contributing to the development of hypertension, particularly among adults. Objectives: To determine the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with the incidence of hypertension among adult patients at Karet Kuningan Community Health Center.Method: This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 73 adult respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to assess dietary patterns, the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) to measure physical activity levels, and blood pressure measurements using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test.Result: The findings revealed that 65.8% of respondents had unhealthy dietary patterns and 47.9% had low levels of physical activity. The prevalence of hypertension among respondents was 69.9%. Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and hypertension incidence (p = 0.001; OR = 246.750). In addition, a significant relationship was found between physical activity and hypertension incidence (p = 0.001).Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with the incidence of hypertension among adult patients at Karet Kuningan Community Health Center. Improving public awareness through nutrition education and the promotion of regular physical activity is essential to support healthy lifestyles and prevent hypertension.
