Abstract

Independent women have increasingly contributed to their families’ economic resilience. However, their expanded roles often introduce new challenges in maintaining harmonious family relationships. Rather than strengthening family stability, dual responsibilities, consumerist and hedonistic lifestyles, financial instability, and perceived inequalities between spouses can gradually undermine emotional intimacy and marital commitment. This study examines how the concept of acts of service, interpreted through the lens of taṣawwuf akhlāqī and grounded in hadith, can help reinforce family resilience among independent women. Through a qualitative literature review, the study synthesizes recent scholarly work to develop an Islamic framework for family relationships. The findings reveal that family resilience depends not only on women’s economic contributions but also on effective communication, mutual support, equitable role-sharing, and emotional reciprocity between spouses. By integrating acts of service with the ethical values of taṣawwuf akhlāqī, such as compassion, sincerity, self-control, financial cooperation, and quality time, marital harmony and long-term family resilience are expected to be strengthened.
