Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a public health problem that can cause adverse effects on both the mother and the fetus. One of the efforts to prevent anemia is through improving pregnant women’s knowledge by providing health education. This study aimed to determine the effect of health education on pregnant women’s knowledge regarding anemia prevention at Puri Clinic, Pekanbaru City. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test–post-test approach. The sample consisted of 15 pregnant women selected using total sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire measuring knowledge of anemia prevention. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed that the mean knowledge score of pregnant women before health education was 59.53 with a standard deviation of 22.34, a minimum score of 23, and a maximum score of 85. After health education, the mean knowledge score increased to 84.13 with a standard deviation of 12.77, a minimum score of 54, and a maximum score of 100. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p 0.05), indicating a significant effect of health education on pregnant women’s knowledge of anemia prevention. In conclusion, health education has a significant effect on improving pregnant women’s knowledge regarding anemia prevention at Puri Clinic, Pekanbaru City. Keywords: Health education, knowledge, anemia, pregnant women

Abstract

Infancy aged 6–18 months is a critical period in child growth and development and is strongly influenced by the mother’s role as the primary caregiver. Mothers’ knowledge and attitudes play an important role in providing stimulation, monitoring growth, and early detection of developmental problems. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mothers’ knowledge and attitudes and the growth and development of infants aged 6–18 months at the Bangko Jaya Primary Health Center, Rokan Hilir Regency. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all mothers with infants aged 6–18 months, with a total sample of 32 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires to assess mothers’ knowledge and attitudes and the Pre-Screening Developmental Questionnaire (KPSP) to assess infant growth and development. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed. The results showed that most mothers had good knowledge (53.1%), sufficient knowledge (21.9%), and poor knowledge (25.0%). Positive attitudes were found in 46.9% of mothers, while 53.1% had negative attitudes. Most infants had normal growth and development (68.8%), while 31.2% showed abnormal development. Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between mothers’ knowledge and infant growth and development (p = 0.001) and between mothers’ attitudes and infant growth and development (p = 0.000). In conclusion, mothers’ knowledge and attitudes are significantly associated with the growth and development of infants aged 6–18 months. Therefore, strengthening maternal health education through counseling and routine monitoring is recommended.Keyword : Mothers’ knowledge, Mothers’ attitudes, Infant growth and development, Infants aged 6–18 months

Abstract

According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 536,000 pregnant women die due to hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). One effort to prevent the worsening of hypertension in pregnant women is the provision of non-pharmacological therapy, such as cucumber juice. Cucumbers are effective in treating hypertension due to their potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus content. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cucumber juice (Cucumis sativus) on reducing blood pressure in third-trimester pregnant women with hypertension in the working area of Pulau Gadang Primary Health Center, Kampar Regency. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The study population consisted of all third-trimester pregnant women in the working area of Pulau Gadang Primary Health Center, totaling 24 respondents. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The measurement instruments included a baby scale and observation sheets. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analysis, processed through a computerized system, with statistical testing using the independent t-test. The results of the paired t-test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating that p 0.05, therefore Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, meaning that cucumber juice had a significant effect on reducing blood pressure in third-trimester pregnant women with hypertension in the working area of Pulau Gadang Primary Health Center, Kampar Regency. It is  expected that this study can serve as informational material for healthcare providers, especially midwives, and the community, demonstrating that consuming cucumber juice can reduce blood pressure in pregnant women compared to using pharmacological treatment alone. Keywords: Cucumber Juice, Blood Pressure, Pregnant Women
