Abstract

The rise of digital disinformation in algorithm-based communication ecosystems has changed the mechanisms of information production, distribution, and consumption, thereby increasing the opportunity for the spread of misleading information through the logic of virality, content personalization, and the reinforcement of cognitive biases. This condition places the concept of tabayyun in the Qur’an as a relevant epistemological framework for examining the contemporary information crisis. This study aims to analyze the concept of tabayyun in the Qur’an, trace the genealogy of misleading information from a Qur’anic perspective, identify the Qur’anic epistemological critique of the logic of algorithms and the culture of virality in the Qur’an, and explain the relevance of the verses of tabayyun in understanding the dynamics of digital disinformation. This research is a qualitative, literature-based study with a thematic interpretation (mawḍūʻī) approach to verses on tabayyun, information, lies, prejudice, and news dissemination. The results of the study indicate that the Qur’an establishes an information verification system that places source checking, fact validation, evaluation of informant credibility, and control of prejudice as prerequisites for the formation of valid knowledge. The Quran also identifies factors contributing to the emergence of misleading information, such as haste in accepting news, the dominance of prejudice, information manipulation, and the reproduction of news without adequate verification. The Quran’s critique of accepting information without evidence closely aligns with the algorithmic problem of amplifying content without regard for its validity. Thus, tabayyun is a fundamental epistemological principle that remains relevant as an analytical tool for addressing the information crisis and disinformation in the algorithmic era.

Abstract

The centuries-long dominance of the tradition of Qur’anic interpretation, largely shaped by male experience, perspective, and scholarly authority, has given rise to debates regarding the representation of women in the production of exegetical knowledge and the legitimacy of women’s experiences as sources of religious meaning. This study aims to analyze women as interpretive subjects in feminist exegetical epistemology, explain the epistemological foundations that support this position, and identify the transformations it has brought about in contemporary Qur’anic studies. The method used is a qualitative approach grounded in literature review, combining the perspectives of exegetical epistemology and critical hermeneutics. Data were obtained from feminist exegetical literature and contemporary Qur’anic studies, then analyzed through content analysis and discourse analysis. The results of the study indicate that feminist exegetical epistemology critiques the construction of interpretive authority that tends to be masculine and reveals historical mechanisms that place women’s experiences outside the center of knowledge production. Through the reconstruction of sources, subjects, and interpretative processes, women’s experiences are affirmed as sources of knowledge that have equal epistemic legitimacy in understanding the Qur’anic text. This position affirms women as active epistemic subjects in the formation of meaning, broadens the horizon of interpretation, reexamines power relations within scientific authority, and encourages a more dialogical shift in the paradigm between text, interpreter, social context, and knowledge production. These findings affirm the contribution of feminist exegetical epistemology to the development of a more inclusive, reflective, and open methodology for Qur’anic studies, without neglecting academic principles and the scientific rules of exegesis.

Abstract

The problems in preparing an interpretation research proposal reveal the tension between the classical epistemological framework and contemporary methodological demands, which often leads to unclear scientific foundations, inconsistent approaches, and weak scientific argumentation. The purpose of this study is to formulate a systematic epistemological model as a conceptual basis for designing an interpretation research proposal that is coherent, analytical, and relevant to the development of Qur’anic science. A qualitative approach based on a literature study is used, through critical reading of the interpretation literature, research methodology, and epistemological theory, with an epistemological-critical orientation. The results of the study show four main findings: first, identification of epistemological foundations that include sources of knowledge, validity of interpretation, and ontological framework of the text; second, mapping of methodological problems in the form of reductionism of approach, inconsistency between problem formulation and method, and minimal integration of context; third, formulation of the ideal structure of the proposal that includes coherence between the background, problem formulation, objectives, theoretical framework, method, and scientific contribution; fourth, epistemological integration emphasizes the dialectical relationship between text, interpreter, and context in the research process. Scientific implications confirm this model’s contribution to improving the quality of interpretive research proposals, making them more systematic, critical, and contextual, thereby strengthening the sustainable development of Qur’anic research.

Abstract

The normative-textual interpretation approach often faces limitations in addressing the complexity of contemporary social problems, which are dynamic and multidimensional, thereby underscoring the urgency of strengthening the interpretation framework of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī as a more contextual and responsive model. This paper aims to analyze the epistemological construction of the interpretation of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī, unravel the methodological mechanisms used, examine the dynamics of responses to social reality, and evaluate its strengths and limitations in the development of contemporary interpretation studies. The method used is a qualitative study based on literature studies with an epistemological approach and critical analysis of relevant classical and modern literature. The results of the study show that the epistemology of the interpretation of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī is integrative, synthesizing linguistic, literary, and social dimensions; contextual in reading the historical and sociological realities of society; and responsive in formulating solutions grounded in applicable Qur’anic values. This approach can provide adaptive interpretations of social justice, economic inequality, and cultural transformation while maintaining the coherence of the text’s meaning. However, limitations are identified in the interpreter’s potential for subjectivity and the challenge of maintaining methodological consistency. Theoretical implications point to strengthening the paradigm of interpretation grounded in scientific epistemology, thereby opening a more systematic and critical dialogue between text and reality in the development of contemporary interpretation methodology.
