Abstract

The normative-textual interpretation approach often faces limitations in addressing the complexity of contemporary social problems, which are dynamic and multidimensional, thereby underscoring the urgency of strengthening the interpretation framework of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī as a more contextual and responsive model. This paper aims to analyze the epistemological construction of the interpretation of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī, unravel the methodological mechanisms used, examine the dynamics of responses to social reality, and evaluate its strengths and limitations in the development of contemporary interpretation studies. The method used is a qualitative study based on literature studies with an epistemological approach and critical analysis of relevant classical and modern literature. The results of the study show that the epistemology of the interpretation of al-Adabī al-Ijtimaʻī is integrative, synthesizing linguistic, literary, and social dimensions; contextual in reading the historical and sociological realities of society; and responsive in formulating solutions grounded in applicable Qur’anic values. This approach can provide adaptive interpretations of social justice, economic inequality, and cultural transformation while maintaining the coherence of the text’s meaning. However, limitations are identified in the interpreter’s potential for subjectivity and the challenge of maintaining methodological consistency. Theoretical implications point to strengthening the paradigm of interpretation grounded in scientific epistemology, thereby opening a more systematic and critical dialogue between text and reality in the development of contemporary interpretation methodology.
