Abstract

Maternal mortality (MMR) is still a major health challenge in Indonesia, with postpartum bleeding as one of the main causes. This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to increase the understanding of pregnant women at high risk at Sally Clinic regarding the danger signs and the initial steps of handling postpartum bleeding independently. The implementation of the activity was carried out on March 21, 2024 by a team of lecturers and students from STIKes Darmo Medan through an educational and structured health counseling method. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' health literacy, where pregnant women and their families became more prepared and able to take preventive and responsive actions in dealing with emergencies. In conclusion, continuous education is a crucial strategy in efforts to reduce maternal mortality and improve patient safety standards in the Sally Clinic environment.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy is one of the medical complications that is a major challenge in maternal health services, as well as being the main cause of maternal mortality and morbidity nationally and globally. If not detected and managed properly, this condition can be at risk of triggering preeclampsia to premature birth. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of pregnant women at the Delima Clinic about the early detection of the risk of hypertension and the importance of managing a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy. The implementation of the activity was carried out on July 23, 2024 by a team of lecturers and students from STIKes Darmo Medan through an interactive counseling method intended for pregnant women and their families as a support system. The results of the evaluation conducted through a comparison of pre-test and post-test showed an increase in participants' understanding of recognizing hypertension symptoms and the importance of adherence to routine health controls. In conclusion, structured education on hypertension management has proven to be effective in empowering pregnant women to take preventive measures independently, so that it is expected to support the creation of healthy and safe pregnancies.

Abstract

The involvement of the husband as the main companion is crucial in supporting the health of pregnant women and accelerating decision-making when emergency conditions occur during pregnancy and childbirth. However, the husband's lack of understanding of the danger signs is often an obstacle in early detection efforts. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of husbands in accompanying their wives and recognizing the danger signs of pregnancy and childbirth. The program will be held on July 17, 2025 at the Mahdalena Clinic through interactive counseling methods, early detection simulations, and group discussions. The results of the evaluation showed a significant increase in understanding in participants regarding the active role of husbands in monitoring their wife's health and alertness in dealing with pregnancy danger signs. This education is expected to increase family preparedness in facing medical complications to support the safety of the mother and fetus.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical phase that requires special attention, especially in preventing postpartum bleeding due to uterine atonia. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and practical skills of health cadres and families in performing simple massage techniques (massage) on the uterus after the baby is born to help uterine contractions. The activity was carried out in Medan Tuntungan District on April 26, 2024, involving the academic team from STIKes Darmo Medan as well as cadres and families as the main targets. The implementation method includes counseling and demonstration of direct uterine massage techniques. The success of the activity was evaluated through pre-test and post-test as well as observation of participants' practical abilities. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding and skills in taking independent actions as a first aid effort to prevent the risk of postpartum bleeding. Structured education on this technique is expected to create a family environment that is alert and independent in supporting postpartum maternal safety.

Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is still the main indicator of the success of health development in Indonesia. One of the main challenges is the delay in early detection of pregnancy complications that are exacerbated by inaccuracies in traditional perceptions or myths in society. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge, awareness, and independence of pregnant women in conducting early detection of high risk of pregnancy through the "Healthy Tradition" approach. This program is carried out at the Sally Clinic by involving pregnant women in the first, second, and third trimesters and families as moral supports. The method of activities is carried out through interactive counseling that integrates medical education with positive local cultural values. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of pregnancy hazards and the importance of routine checkups. Through this approach, the stigma that medical science contradicts tradition can be minimized, so that pregnant women are more confident in maintaining the health of their fetus according to medical standards without abandoning their cultural identity.
