Abstract

Globalization has brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including the existence of traditional Islamic culture in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze in depth the influence of globalization on the practices, values, and identity of traditional Islam, as well as to map out the forms of adaptation among Muslim communities in responding to these social shifts. The research method employed is qualitative with a descriptive-analytical approach based on comprehensive literature review. The results indicate that globalization presents multidimensional challenges, including the influx of global popular culture, the massive rise of digital media, and the emergence of transnational religious ideologies that potentially degrade local authority and deeply rooted religious traditions. Traditional Islamic practices such as village religious gatherings (pengajian kampung), tahlilan, pilgrimages, and local wisdom-based rituals face structural and cultural pressures to adapt in order to remain relevant amid modernity. Nonetheless, traditional Islamic culture demonstrates high resilience and adaptive capacity through the utilization of social media, digitalization of dawah, and the reinterpretation of traditional values into a modern context. Consequently, globalization serves not only as a destructive threat to traditional Islam but also as a golden opportunity to strengthen the existence of religious traditions through innovation, digital transformation, and contextualization of values.
