Abstract

This community service program was conducted to address the clean water crisis experienced by flood-affected residents in Gampong Keurumbok, Kecamatan Kuta Blang, Kabupaten Bireuen. The flood disaster damaged and contaminated local water sources, disrupting the community’s access to safe water for daily needs. The program aimed to provide a reliable and sustainable clean water supply through the construction of a shallow tube well and to enhance community capacity in managing and maintaining water facilities. The target beneficiaries were households affected by the flood and facing limited access to clean water. A participatory approach was employed, including needs assessment, site survey, technical planning, tube well construction, and community assistance. The implementation strategy involved coordination with village authorities, site selection based on local hydrogeological conditions, and active community participation throughout the construction and maintenance processes. The results indicate that the shallow tube well successfully improved access to clean water, reduced dependence on contaminated water sources, and supported post-disaster recovery efforts. Furthermore, community involvement in the management of the facility contributed to the sustainability and long-term utilization of the clean water supply system.

Abstract

Conventional fired-clay brick production in Lancang Barat Village, Dewantara District, North Aceh Regency, continues to face challenges, including high energy consumption, inconsistent product quality, and the underutilization of Aceh flood sediment and rice straw waste. This community service program aimed to enhance the capacity of local brickmakers through the transfer of Compressed Stabilized Earth Block (CSEB) production technology using Aceh flood sediment and rice straw fibers as sustainable construction materials. A participatory approach was employed, consisting of community outreach, training, technology demonstrations, hands-on production practice, technical assistance, basic quality testing, and evaluation through pre-tests, post-tests, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The program resulted in improved knowledge and technical skills among participants, the development of training modules and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the establishment of a group of brickmakers capable of independently operating the technology, and the production of interlocking CSEBs that met the basic requirements for non-structural construction. The program also promoted circular economy practices through the utilization of local waste resources, reduced dependence on fired-clay bricks, and demonstrated strong potential for replication in other regions with similar characteristics.
