Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still a health problem in Indonesia and is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Continuous use of chemical larvicides can cause resistance and environmental pollution, so alternatives to natural larvicides are needed, such as basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) and soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.). This study aims to compare the effectiveness of boiled basil and soursop leaves on the death of third instar Aedes aegypti larvae. The research used a laboratory experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD). The concentrations used were 25%, 30%, 35% and 40% with three repetitions and observations for 24 hours. Data analysis was carried out using normality, homogeneity, One Way ANOVA, Duncan test, and probit tests to determine LC50. The results showed that the percentage of larval death in boiled basil leaves was 23.3%; 36.6%; 40%; and 60%, while soursop leaf decoction is 70%; 76.6%; 76.6%; and 86.6%. One Way ANOVA test showed that there were significant differences between treatments (p < 0.05). Decoction of soursop leaves is more effective than decoction of basil leaves as a natural larvicide against Aedes aegypti larvae.
