Abstract

Today, in higher education, at the university level, the learning process is still evolving. The objective of this study was describe how to use local role-playing activities for interpersonal communication among students, especially those who have completed semester 5, in order to improve their language skills. In this way, knowledge can explicitly test the order of the function studied and explored by students to help them understand the concept of learning. The study design uses a quantitative survey as the approach, while observation and questionnaire are for data collection. The results show that the local history role-playing method is effective in building interpersonal communication, especially for the 5th-grade English curriculum. A local drama using the “Topekkong Agreement” was indicated where students always express their ideas which the listener can understand and then give feedback or response. So, this method could improve students' English skills. This study recommends that further research is needed to develop methods, especially building interpersonal communication by using a local history drama approach.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms of persuasion and types of political propaganda carried out by the three Candidates for President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2024. This type of research is a theoretical and methodological approach by analyzing words, phrases, clauses and sentences containing persuasive speech acts in the text speeches by three Indonesian Presidential Candidates in 2024. The sampling technique in this research was based on predetermined criteria. The results of this research obtained the use of imperative sentences by presidential candidates are more about requests, prohibitions and omissions. This shows that the presidential candidate is a speaker who positions himself lower than his speech partner (audience). For this reason, the Presidential Candidate in his speeches always asks and hopes for the people to be accepted and accepted in society. Meanwhile, the political propaganda carried out by the presidential candidates is based on the vision and mission in their speeches. They asked and expected the people to accept and follow what was in the contents of their speech. The presidential candidates' speeches are political propaganda speeches that can be combined with a vision and mission and then carried out persuasively.

Abstract

This research explores various ways of expressing gratitude in the Korean language and their effects on Indonesian learners of Korean. Through the analysis of language variations involving expressions of gratitude in Korean, it highlights differences in formality, familiarity, and intensity of gratitude expressed. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative method. The data for this study were obtained from online books and related articles. The results indicate that understanding various expressions of gratitude has a positive impact on communication skills, politeness, cultural adaptation, and social integration for Indonesian learners. By expanding their knowledge of the Korean language and culture, learners can more easily interact with native speakers, strengthen interpersonal relationships, and gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture as a whole. The implications of this research provide insights into the importance of understanding language variations in social and cultural contexts, as well as their implications for language learning and cross-cultural integration.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of language in the implementation of public service ethics, with a focus on Hajj services at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Makassar City. It examines both verbal and non-verbal communication strategies used by public service professionals to understand how language influences ethical decision-making and interactions between service providers and the public. The research aims to explore how language choices support accountability, fairness, and transparency while encouraging ethical conduct in public institutions. Using a case study approach, the study concentrates on the interactions between Hajj service officers and prospective pilgrims during the registration, guidance, and procedural explanation stages. Data collection includes participatory observation of language use and non-verbal cues, such as gestures and intonation. The findings emphasize that key language characteristics like clarity, politeness, empathy, and motivational language play a crucial role in creating positive service experiences and promoting ethical behavior. The study concludes that strategic language use in public service fosters trust, transparency, and cooperation, enhancing relationships between service providers and the public and reinforcing a culture of accountability in public institutions.
