Abstract: As an interdisciplinary science, educational linguistics requires the support of sciences other than linguistics, including sociology, psychology, etc. Comparative linguistic analysis is also well known among foreign language learners. In addition to comparative linguistics, the mode of linguistic analysis that compares two or more languages is comparative linguistics. There are two aspects of comparative linguistics: linguistics and psychology. The study of language is related to the problem of language contrast, while the study of psychology is concerned with learning difficulties, how learning materials are compiled, and how learning materials are provided. One of the key words of comparative linguistic analysis is the presence of contrasting components, since there is a difference in meaning between their mother tongue and the foreign language. In this example, the Indonesian and Chinese components are suitable (shìhé) and suitable (héshì). These two components were chosen because Shìhé and Héshì in Mandarin have basically the same meaning as Shìhé and Héshì in Indonesian, and they are both matching meanings. However, the grammatical structures of Bahasa Indonesia and Chinese are very different Therefore, by using an app called Kahoot to improve the competitiveness of each learner, it is also possible to improve the mastery of the two components of fit (Shìhé) and appropriate (Héshì). Kahoot is a game-based learning platform for creating and playing online interactive quizzes. Educators or content creators can use the platform to create quiz questions and engage participants in the game through their own devices, such as computers or smartphones

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of being “able to speak but afraid to speak”among advanced Indonesian learners of Chinese. A qualitative research approach was adopted. Two Indonesian learners who had obtained HSK Level 5 or above and had studied in China were selected as research participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings generated four major themes. First, advanced learners generally experienced the phenomenon of being able tospeak Chinese but lacking the confidence to speak in formal communicative situations. Second, fear of negative evaluation was identified as an important psychological factor contributing to speaking anxiety. Third, learners’ personal growth experiences, learning backgrounds, and individual characteristics jointly influenced the formation of speaking anxiety. Fourth, continuous language practice helped improve speaking confidence, but could not completely eliminate speaking anxiety in formal communicative contexts. The study concludes that speaking anxiety among advanced Chinese learners is not merely caused by insufficient language proficiency, but results from the interaction of language competence, personal experiences, psychological factors, and communicative contexts. Therefore, international Chinese language education should pay greater attention to learners’ emotional needs by creating supportive, low-anxiety classroom environments and providing more authentic opportunities for oral communication, so as to help learners gradually develop the confidence to speak Chinese.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of Zhang Wuji (張無忌)’s leadership through character transformation in the 2019 television series Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with Stuart Hall’s theory of representation serving as the primary framework for analyzing the construction of leadership meanings through dialogue, actions, conflicts, and character development. Leadership theory is applied to identify Zhang Wuji’s leadership characteristics, while the concept of character transformation is used to examine his development from a simple young man into a leader who assumes responsibility for his community and the society around him. The research data consist of scenes, dialogues, actions, and character developments involving Zhang Wuji, collected through observation and documentation of the series. The findings indicate that Zhang Wuji’s leadership is represented through several key characteristics, namely empathy, responsibility, wisdom, self-control, and sacrifice. His character transformation demonstrates that leadership is not shaped solely by power or social position, but develops through experiences, conflicts, learning processes, and the trust placed in him by others. Therefore, Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (2019) represents Zhang Wuji as a humanistic, wise, and responsible leader who prioritizes collective interests over personal interests.
