Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and remains a major health problem in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the appropriateness of antituberculosis drug (OAT) use, including the appropriateness of the drug, dosage, and duration of treatment, and to analyze the relationship between the appropriateness of the duration of treatment and treatment outcomes. This study is an observational, descriptive-analytical study using retrospective medical record data from July 2024 to June 2025. A purposive sampling method was used, with a sample 259 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis was performed univariately to describe the distribution of study variables and bivariately to examine relationships between variables. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the appropriateness of drug use included 100% drug accuracy, 100% dose accuracy, and 81.1% treatment duration accuracy. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between the appropriateness of treatment duration and treatment outcomes (p-value < 0.001). Patients with appropriate treatment durations had a significantly greater chance of recovery than those with inappropriate treatment durations (OR = 9870). These findings indicate that the treatment process for adult tuberculosis (TB) patients at two community health centers in Pekanbaru City met the 2020 National Guidelines for Tuberculosis Management.
