ABSTRACT Hyperglycemia is a condition characterized by an uncontrolled increase in blood glucose levels in the body, which may rise to high levels exceeding >200 mg/dL. The administration of butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L.) significantly reduced blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced male albino rats compared to the negative control group. This reduction may be attributed to the antidiabetic potential of bioactive compounds present in the butterfly pea flower extract. These findings support the hypothesis that butterfly pea flower extract has a positive effect in reducing blood glucose levels in male albino rats with alloxan-induced diabetes. This study aimed to determine the effect of butterfly pea flower extract (Clitoria ternatea L.) on blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced male albino rats. The study employed an experimental method with a pretest–posttest design. Male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) were acclimatized for 7 days and subsequently induced with alloxan. The study was divided into two groups, namely a control group and treatment groups receiving butterfly pea flower extract at doses of 150 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 450 mg/kgBW. The treatment groups received oral administration of butterfly pea flower extract once daily for 14 days. Blood glucose levels were monitored regularly throughout the study period and were measured on day 15, following the 14-day treatment period. The results of the one-way ANOVA analysis among all experimental groups showed a p-value ≤ 0.05, indicating statistically significant differences. Based on the Bonferroni post hoc test, significant differences were observed between the negative control group and all treatment doses (p ≤ 0.05). In addition, a significant difference was found between the positive control group and the highest treatment dose (450 mg/kgBW).In conclusion, butterfly pea flower extract demonstrated a significant effect in reducing blood glucose levels across all administered dose variations.
