Abstract

Generation Z is a digital native generation that has grown up along with the development of information and communication technology, especially social media, which has significant implications for the shift in the English learning paradigm from formal to informal. This study aims to examine the pattern of the use of social media as an alternative learning space for Generation Z students in rural areas. Despite the growing body of research on social media-assisted language learning, most studies have focused on urban students or university contexts, leaving limited evidence from rural vocational schools where access to authentic English-speaking environments remains restricted. Therefore, students of Vocational High School were selected because they represent Generation Z learners in rural areas who rely heavily on digital platforms to access English-language input. This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional survey design to map the perception, intensity of use, and form of student involvement in English learning activities mediated by social media algorithms. Algorithm-mediated learning refers to language exposure that occurs through personalized content recommendations generated by social media algorithms such as TikTok's For You Page (FYP) and Instagram Reels. Data were collected from 22 students through a closed-ended questionnaire based on the Likert scale and observation of digital activities.  The findings revealed high levels of exposure to English-language content (M = 4.36; 87.2%) and strong interest in learning English through social media (M = 4.57; 91.4%).The results show that social media is used as a means of self-taught learning and project-based learning mediated by algorithms such as platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

Abstract

Abstract This study focuses on identifying and analyzing the values of religious moderation integrated into the Al-Islam, Kemuhammadiyahan, and Arabic Language (ISMUBA) curriculum at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah level. The aim of this research is to examine how the values of religious moderation are implemented and taught through the ISMUBA curriculum, as well as their impact on students’ understanding of interfaith harmony. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, involving observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the ISMUBA curriculum effectively incorporates the values of religious moderation, although its implementation in the field still requires improvement. This study offers recommendations for developing a more inclusive and adaptive curriculum in response to the religious and social dynamics in Indonesia. Abstract

Islamic civilization in Indonesia faces various contemporary challenges, including socio-political polarization, the weakening of intellectual traditions, and declining social cohesion within a pluralistic society. This study aims to analyze the political dynamics, intellectual traditions, and social cohesion of Islamic Andalusia and to formulate the AIICR (Andalusian-Inspired Islamic Civilization Reconstruction) Model as a conceptual framework for reconstructing contemporary Indonesian Islamic civilization. This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a historical-critical approach. Data were collected from scholarly articles, books, historical documents, and relevant academic publications, then analyzed through thematic synthesis and historical interpretation. The findings indicate that the advancement of Andalusian civilization was supported by three main pillars: political stability, integrative intellectual traditions, and inclusive social cohesion. Conversely, its decline was driven by political fragmentation, the deterioration of intellectual culture, and weakened social solidarity. Based on these findings, this study proposes the AIICR Model, which consists of three interconnected pillars: inclusive political governance, integrative intellectual traditions, and social cohesion grounded in religious moderation and multicultural values. The model offers a conceptual framework for developing an advanced, inclusive, and sustainable Islamic civilization in contemporary Indonesia.
