Abstract

Abstract

A new problem has come since the emergence of the term social distancing. Many parties continue to feel concerned, especially those who care about the future of Pesantren's education. The greatest fear is that there is a lost generation if this problem is not immediately addressed. Pesantren, as a forum for the development of religious knowledge, has a big role in the civilization of life. The formulation of the Islamic education curriculum as a supporter is inspired by primary sources of Islamic teachings. Every learning must use the method to deliver the goals that an educational institution has set. One of the methods used in Pesantren is learning with the Talaqqi method. This study aimed to discuss further how the Talaqqi method was implemented in Pesantren during the Covid-19 pandemic. The author gathers information from references to scientific journals, articles, current news, and direct observations in the area of Pesantren. The result showed that this method used in each Pesantren in Indonesia during the current pandemic is very different. The problem with this study is that it only looks at one way to learn. It would be better if future research compared many different ways to learn.

Abstract

Islam in Southeast Asia, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia, has developed through a unique and peaceful process compared to other Muslim regions. This study examines the theories of the arrival of Islam and its development and dissemination in Indonesia and Malaysia. The research aims to analyze various perspectives regarding the origins of Islam in Southeast Asia and to describe the factors and characteristics of Islamic development in both countries. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing a literature study to examine relevant books., journals, and historical documents related to the Islamization process in Southeast Asia. The findings indicate that the arrival of Islam in the region is explained through several theories, namely the Gujarat, Arab, Persian, Chinese, and multi-route theories. Furthermore, the spread of Islam was influenced by trade, marriage, Sufism, education, and political factors. In Indonesia and Malaysia, Islam developed peacefully, adapted to local cultures, and became an important element in social, cultural, educational, and political life. The study concludes that Islam in Southeast Asia has distinctive characteristics, including moderation, tolerance, cultural accommodation, and a strong educational tradition, making it a model of inclusive Islamic civilization in the contemporary world.

Abstract

Islamic civilization in Indonesia faces various contemporary challenges, including socio-political polarization, the weakening of intellectual traditions, and declining social cohesion within a pluralistic society. This study aims to analyze the political dynamics, intellectual traditions, and social cohesion of Islamic Andalusia and to formulate the AIICR (Andalusian-Inspired Islamic Civilization Reconstruction) Model as a conceptual framework for reconstructing contemporary Indonesian Islamic civilization. This research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a historical-critical approach. Data were collected from scholarly articles, books, historical documents, and relevant academic publications, then analyzed through thematic synthesis and historical interpretation. The findings indicate that the advancement of Andalusian civilization was supported by three main pillars: political stability, integrative intellectual traditions, and inclusive social cohesion. Conversely, its decline was driven by political fragmentation, the deterioration of intellectual culture, and weakened social solidarity. Based on these findings, this study proposes the AIICR Model, which consists of three interconnected pillars: inclusive political governance, integrative intellectual traditions, and social cohesion grounded in religious moderation and multicultural values. The model offers a conceptual framework for developing an advanced, inclusive, and sustainable Islamic civilization in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the ambivalent position of Banyumasan female sinden—valued as guardians of a living musical tradition yet constrained by patriarchal and Islamic-Javanese normative expectations—and the forms of agency they mobilize to negotiate voice, body, and artistic decision-making. Framed by the cablaka (direct, egalitarian) ethos that distinguishes Banyumasan performance culture from the more hierarchical Mataraman courtly tradition, the study employs a qualitative phenomenological casestudy design enriched by ethnographic sensibilities. Data were generated through in-depth interviews with six purposively and snowball-sampled informants—a senior karawitan trainer, two junior sinden, a dalang, a cultural observer, and an audience member—together with four months (February–May 2025) of participatory observation and documentation in Karanglewas, Banyumas Regency. Thematic analysis, triangulated across sources and techniques, reveals that aesthetic standards, stage structure, and social perception constrain creative space. In response, sinden exercise agency through vocal improvisation, repertoire curation blending classical gendhing with campursari and dangdut, stage-aesthetic adaptation, and interpersonal negotiation with dalang and musicians. Verbatim testimony indicates that vocal acoustics—volume, timbre, and cengkok ornamentation—and the spatial arrangement of the gamelan/wayang stage function simultaneously as disciplinary technologies and as resources sinden use to resignify gendered norms, thereby extending Judith Butler's concept of gender performativity beyond its predominantly visual applications. The findings underscore agency as a negotiated practice within intersecting patriarchal and religio-cultural structures, and support culturalpreservation policy that formally involves sinden in artistic decisionmaking.

Abstract

Tarekat or tarīqah is the Muslim spiritual path toward direct knowledge (maʿrifah) or ultimate truth (ḥaqq) of God. This paper aims to describe the Sufism school teaching of Tarekat Rinjani in Besuki Village, Banyumas Regency. This research is also to reveal laku batiniyah and lahiriyah (spiritual and physical practices) of Tarekat Rinjani. Cultural anthropology research was conducted to achieve the objectives through participatory observation and in-depth interviews for collecting the data. Tarekat Rinjani is one of the local Javanese tarekat that existed within Javanese communities. In this tarekat, the members must carry out Laku Kendalisada ritual consisting of two parts; spiritual and physical practices, to reach the love of God. Spiritual practices were done by managing hearts, minds, and reciting wirid, while physical practices were done by loving the Republic of Indonesia, helping others regardless of religion, groups, and ethnics, and making spiritual journeys to places called as wingit. In conclusion, Tarekat Rinjani is classified as a ghairu mu’tabarah, which is not a well-recognized Sufi order based on Sharia and included in the creed of Sunni Islam, since it is typical of Banyumas Sufi-syncretic tarekat with non-mutashil sanad that is not directly connected to the Prophet Muhammad.
