Abstract

Futsal is played in a confined space at high intensity; consequently, agility is a crucial physical attribute that enables players to change direction rapidly without losing their balance. Many school-level players have not yet undergone specific training programs focused on changing direction. This study aimed to analyze the effect of a combined intervention consisting of Zig-zag exercises and T-Drill exercises on improving the agility levels of futsal players. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest) involving 16 players from the futsal extracurricular program at SMAN 2 Malang City. Participants were selected via purposive sampling based on the following criteria: male, aged 15–18 years, and in good physical health. Exclusion criteria included players with injuries and those unwilling to participate. The combined training intervention was administered twice weekly over a four-week period. Agility was measured using the Illinois Agility Test, timed with a digital stopwatch. Data normality was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and analysis was conducted using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results demonstrated a highly significant improvement in agility across all subjects. The mean completion time for the Illinois Agility Test was 18.67 seconds at pre-test and decreased to 17.04 seconds at post-test, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The combined Zig-zag and T-Drill exercise program proved to have a significant effect on enhancing the agility of futsal players.

Abstract

Basketball is a dynamic and high-intensity sport that requires explosive jumping capability. Vertical jump performance is a crucial physical attribute supporting actions such as shooting, rebounding, and blocking. The shuttle run interval training method is assumed to induce neuromuscular and anaerobic energy system adaptations directly correlated with increased lower extremity explosive power in players. This study aimed to analyze the effect of shuttle run interval training on enhancing vertical jump performance in basketball players at the Budi Dharma Basketball Club, Pasuruan City. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental design (one-group pretest-posttest design) involving 17 male basketball players aged 16–19 years, selected via purposive sampling. The shuttle run interval training intervention was administered twice weekly over a four-week period. The measurement instrument used to assess vertical jump performance was the Sargent Jump Test. Data normality was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and analysis was conducted using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in vertical jump across all subjects. The mean vertical jump performance score was 43.47 cm prior to the intervention (pre-test) and significantly increased to 49.23 cm following the intervention (post-test), with a p-value of 0.000 ($p < 0.05$). The shuttle run interval training program proved to have a significant effect on enhancing the vertical jump performance of basketball players through the optimization of the functional explosive power of lower extremity muscles

Abstract

Forward Head Posture (FHP) is a postural disorder commonly found among Islamic boarding school students (santri) due to prolonged static sitting activities such as reading, memorizing, and studying. This study aimed to determine the difference in effectiveness between McKenzie Cervical Exercise and Chin Tuck Exercise on improving Forward Head Posture through Craniovertebral Angle (CVA) values in students at Yambu'ul Quran Islamic Boarding School, Kediri. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a two group pre-post test approach involving 30 male respondents aged 12–18 years, divided into two groups: the McKenzie Cervical Exercise group (n=15) and the Chin Tuck Exercise group (n=15). CVA measurements were performed using the AI Posture Evaluation and Correction System (APECS) application. Normality was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test, within-group analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and between-group comparison was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results showed that McKenzie Cervical Exercise increased the median CVA value from 47.0° to 50.0° (p=0.007), while Chin Tuck Exercise increased the median CVA value from 46.0° to 49.0°. There was a significant difference in effectiveness between the two interventions, where McKenzie Cervical Exercise proved to be more effective than Chin Tuck Exercise in improving CVA values in santri with Forward Head Posture (p<0.05).

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints among university students duet o academic activites that predominantly involve prolonged sitting. Ergonomic postural awareness serves as a protective factor by enabling individuals to maintain proper body posture in accordance with ergonomic principles, thereby reducing the risk of developing low back pain. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between ergonomic postural awareness and low back pain among students of ITSK RS dr. Soepraoen Malang. This study employed a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 323 active undergraduate nursing and physiotherapy students, with a sample of 135 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Postural Awareness Scale (PAS) to assess ergonomic postural awareness and the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) to measure the intensity of low back pain. Data analysis included the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test followed by the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of ergonomic postural awareness (54.1%) and mild low back pain (89.6%). The Spearman Rank correlation test demonstrated a significant relationship between ergonomic postural awareness and low back pain (p<0.001; r = -0.458), indicating that higher ergonomic postural awareness was associated with lower levels of low back pain among students. Therefore, ergonomic postural awareness serves as a protective factor in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders among students who engage in prolonged static sitting.
