Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Hypertension is a significant health problem and can affect a person's eligibility to donate blood. Elevated blood pressure can lead to serious health risks, including stroke and heart attack. One factor contributing to this increase is the caffeine in coffee, which is thought to increase blood pressure, so understanding its impact on potential donors is important. This study aims to analyze the relationship between coffee consumption and the incidence of hypertension among potential donors at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Blood Donor Unit (UTD) in Yogyakarta City in 2025. Methods: The research method used was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design, using primary data from questionnaires administered to donors. This study was conducted in January 2025 among donors at the PMI Blood Donor Unit (UTD) in Yogyakarta City. A sample of 65 respondents was selected using a purposive sampling technique using questionnaires and digital blood pressure monitors. Univariate and bivariate analyses used the Chi-Square test. Results and Discussion: The results showed that of the 65 respondents, 43 (66.2%) were moderate coffee consumers, 15 (23.1%) were high coffee consumers, and 7 (10.8%) were low coffee consumers. Respondents with no history of hypertension were 32 people (49.2%), with hypertension were 33 people (50.8%). The results of the Chi Square test analysis between coffee consumption and the incidence of hypertension in respondents showed that there was a significant relationship between coffee consumption and the incidence of hypertension in prospective donors at the UTD PMI Yogyakarta City in 2025 with a sig. value (two-sided) = 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between coffee consumption and the incidence of hypertension in potential blood donors.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Infectious waste is waste generated from medical facilities such as hospitals, community health centers, and polyclinics. It is a type of waste that falls into the biohazard category, meaning it is highly hazardous to the environment, containing many viruses, bacteria, and hazardous substances. Syringe waste is a type of medical waste consisting of used syringes used in various medical procedures, such as drug injections, blood sampling, vaccinations, and so on. This waste is categorized as B3 waste. The purpose of this study is to determine how syringe waste is managed at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) UTD (National Red Cross) in Yogyakarta City. Methods: This study employed a qualitative method. The approach used was a case study. A case study is a research method conducted by in-depth exploration of a program, event, process, or activity involving one or more people. This study employed a total sampling technique, involving the entire population as respondents. The analysis used was content analysis to describe and understand the meaning and patterns contained in the analyzed data. The points included transcription, coding, categories, themes, and interpretation. Results and Discussion: The results of this study indicate that the sorting, destruction, and transportation of syringe waste have been carried out effectively. However, the Yogyakarta City PMI UTD does not process syringe waste directly. The waste destruction process is outsourced to a third party, PT Global Nviro Nusa, while the transportation process is handled by a second party, PT Darindo. Conclusion: The management of syringe waste at the Yogyakarta City PMI UTD has been successful from sorting to transportation. However, the final destruction process is not carried out independently but rather delegated to external partners (PT Darindo and PT Global Nviro Nusa).

Abstract

Background: Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) play a crucial role in providing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative health services. To improve the efficiency and effectiveness of health management, the Umbulharjo I Community Health Center launched an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system in April 2023. This study evaluates the system's implementation using the PIECES framework—which encompasses Performance, Information, Economics, Control, Efficiency, and Service—to identify strengths and areas for improvement. Methods: This study adopted a descriptive qualitative design. Data were collected through interviews, direct observation, and document review involving healthcare workers using the system, then analyzed across the six dimensions of the PIECES framework. Results and Discussion: Results indicate that the EMR generally improves service delivery and data management. The system is easy to operate and supports work efficiency, although its performance is highly dependent on stable internet connectivity. The information generated is relevant but not entirely accurate or complete, especially for population-based reports. Economically, the system reduces operational costs and administrative workload. However, limited supporting facilities—such as laptops, scanners, and electronic signature devices—remain a challenge. Security is maintained through user authentication and an internal network, but data backup is still performed manually. Although the EMR facilitates services, technical glitches and incomplete implementation in some units, including maternal and child health services, continue to pose challenges. Conclusion: The implementation of the EMR at Umbulharjo I Community Health Center has made a positive contribution to health management and service quality. However, improvements in infrastructure, user training, and system features are needed to achieve more effective and comprehensive use.
