Abstract

This study investigates how waqf helps married women in northeastern Nigeria start family-owned enterprises. In the past, waqf, an Islamic charitable endowment, has supported underprivileged communities financially and with resources, acting as a mechanism for socioeconomic development. In this regard, waqf institutions can enable married women to start and maintain family-owned enterprises, tackling issues like restricted financial resources, socio-cultural constraints, and unstable economic conditions. By offering interest-free loans, training courses, and infrastructure assistance, waqf can encourage married women to start their own businesses, increasing their financial independence and boosting household income. The study uses qualitative research methodology, reviewing relevant literature on the subject matter and stakeholder interviews. Findings revealed that integrating waqf with family-owned business initiatives improves economic stability, reduces poverty levels, and strengthens family cohesion. Additionally, the study highlighted the need for strategic collaboration between waqf institutions, government bodies, and community organizations to optimize resource allocation and expand the impact of waqf on women's entrepreneurship. This research underscores the transformative potential of waqf in advancing gender-inclusive economic development in Northeastern Nigeria and provides recommendations for policymakers and waqf administrators to enhance the effectiveness of their programs.

Abstract

Significant issues with water management and security face the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC); these challenges are worsened by pressures from economic expansion, population growth, and climate change. Islamic financial instruments such as Zakat and Waqf provide creative means of addressing these issues. This paper examines the possible effects of Zakat and Waqf on sustainable water management and security solutions in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries, emphasizing their historical relevance, current uses, and potential future developments. A multidisciplinary method was used to conduct a thorough analysis, incorporating viewpoints from Islamic finance, environmental science, and public policy. A qualitative research method was used through literature review, and interview with about twelve (12) pertinent people from six (6) categories of people to gather data. The conclusions of this research imply that Zakat and Waqf have a great deal of potential to support OIC nations’ sustainable water management and security. The study concludes with actionable suggestions for governments, NGOs, policymakers, and community leaders with the goal of maximizing the application of Zakat and Waqf to resolve water-related issues. In order to accomplish sustainable development goals, this research emphasizes how crucial it is to include traditional Islamic financial tools into contemporary water management systems.

Abstract

Background of study: This study examines the advantages, difficulties, and prospective advancements of Waqf in bolstering primary healthcare services in Gombe State's rural regions. Waqf, an Islamic endowment for social welfare, has long provided funding for healthcare and education, but its ability to provide rural health care is still restricted.Aims and scope of paper: The study intends to evaluate the role Waqf institutions play in primary healthcare and offer solutions for enhancing their sustainability and effectiveness in rural Nigeria. Methods: Qualitative and quantitative data were combined in a mixed-methods approach. Structured interviews and questionnaires with Waqf administrators, healthcare providers, legislators, and community members were used to collect primary data. Official reports, pertinent literature, and case studies of effective Waqf-based healthcare projects were examples of secondary data. The data was interpreted using thematic analysis and descriptive statistics.Result: The results show that Waqf institutions build facilities, offer subsidized medical services, and help staff in order to give vital healthcare support. Their efficacy is hampered by issues like low public knowledge, shoddy legislative frameworks, erratic funding, inadequate asset management, and little cooperation with government organizations. Important suggestions include bolstering relationships, strengthening legal and policy frameworks, and promoting financial sustainability through investment. Conclusion: According to the study's findings, Waqf can be a long-term source of finance for rural healthcare with effective management, lowering reliance on government and outside assistance while fostering fair access to healthcare throughout Gombe State.
