Abstract

This study examines the effects of work discipline, compensation, and leadership on turnover intention among employees of PT. Sumber Alam Makmur Sentosa (PT SAMS), a palm oil plantation company in Rokan Hulu, Riau. The study was motivated by increasing employee mobility and indications of sustained turnover pressure within the company over the past five years. A quantitative approach was employed using a structured questionnaire distributed to 87 employees selected through simple random sampling from a total population of 111 workers. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after passing validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests. The results indicate that partially only leadership significantly influences turnover intention, while work discipline and compensation do not show significant effects. Simultaneously, the three independent variables do not significantly explain turnover intention. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.058) demonstrates that the model has low explanatory power, suggesting that turnover intention is influenced by other psychological and contextual factors beyond discipline and compensation. These findings imply that improving leadership quality, particularly in terms of communication, responsiveness, and perceived fairness, is more critical for employee retention than relying solely on disciplinary enforcement or compensation adjustments. The study contributes to human resource management literature by highlighting the contextual nature of turnover intention in plantation-based organizations.

Abstract

This study examines the direct and indirect relationships between work motivation, work discipline, and work productivity among oil palm farmers in Tapung Jaya Village. In smallholder agricultural systems, productivity is not only influenced by technical capacity but also by psychological and behavioral factors. This research applies a quantitative explanatory design using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Data were collected from 89 oil palm farmers selected from a population of 735 farmers using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Measurement model evaluation confirmed satisfactory validity and reliability. The structural model indicates that work motivation has a significant positive effect on work productivity (β = 0.532; p = 0.001). However, work motivation does not significantly affect work discipline (β = 0.155; p = 0.516), and work discipline does not significantly affect work productivity (β = 0.256; p = 0.363). Furthermore, work discipline does not mediate the relationship between work motivation and productivity (indirect β = 0.040; p = 0.654). These findings suggest that motivation functions as the primary determinant of productivity in decentralized farming contexts, while discipline does not operate as an intervening mechanism. The study contributes to contextualized organizational behavior literature by demonstrating that mediation models commonly validated in formal employment settings may not automatically apply to smallholder agricultural systems. Practically, productivity enhancement strategies should prioritize strengthening farmers’ motivational drivers rather than focusing solely on compliance-based discipline interventions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of working capital and sales on net profit in agricultural sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2020–2024 period. The study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from the financial statements of agricultural sector companies. The sample consists of seven companies selected through purposive sampling, resulting in 35 firm-year observations. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results show that working capital has a positive and significant effect on net profit, indicating that effective management of current assets and current liabilities contributes to improving company profitability. In contrast, sales do not have a significant effect on net profit, suggesting that increased sales do not necessarily lead to higher profitability due to operational costs and other financial factors. However, the simultaneous test indicates that working capital and sales together significantly influence net profit. The coefficient of determination shows that the independent variables explain a substantial portion of the variation in net profit. These findings highlight the importance of efficient working capital management in supporting the financial performance of agricultural companies. The study provides managerial implications for improving financial management practices and contributes to the literature on corporate financial performance in the agricultural sector.

Abstract

The agricultural sector plays an essential role in supporting food security and improving rural community welfare in Indonesia. However, agricultural productivity in many rural areas remains relatively low due to limited human resource capacity, inadequate adoption of agricultural technology, and insufficient technical guidance for farmers. This study aims to analyze the influence of training and mentoring on the productivity of rice farmers in Rambah Muda Village, Rambah Hilir District, Rokan Hulu Regency. The research employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative design. The population consisted of 120 farmers, while the sample comprised 50 respondents determined using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale and supported by observation and informal interviews. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The results show that training has a positive and significant effect on farmers’ productivity (t = 4.742; p < 0.05), while mentoring also has a positive and significant effect (t = 2.579; p < 0.05). Simultaneously, training and mentoring significantly influence farmers’ productivity (F = 29.874; p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination indicates that 82.9% of farmers’ productivity can be explained by the variables of training and mentoring. These findings suggest that capacity-building programs through structured training and continuous mentoring play a strategic role in improving farmers’ productivity and supporting sustainable food security at the local level (Dessler, 2020; Mardikanto, 2018; FAO, 2021). Therefore, agricultural development policies should emphasize integrated farmer empowerment programs that combine knowledge transfer with field-based mentoring to enhance agricultural productivity and rural welfare.
