Abstract

This study analyzes the integration of character values in Cultural Arts learning in elementary schools, teacher strategies for instilling these values, and students’ behavioral responses and development. A descriptive qualitative approach was used with 3 Cultural Arts teachers and 78 fourth- and fifth-grade students, purposively selected. Data were collected through 12 observation sessions using a character values observation sheet, semi-structured interviews, and documentation including lesson plans (RPP), activity photos, and student artworks. Data were analyzed thematically through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity strengthened by source triangulation and member checking. The results indicate that the integration of character values—discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and cultural appreciation—consistently appeared in classroom activities. The most effective teacher strategies included group art projects, reflective discussions, introduction of local artifacts, and teacher role modeling. Empirical evidence showed an increase in students’ ability to appreciate peers’ work (78%), participation in discussions on local cultural symbols (70%), and student responsibility (66%), along with a decrease in disciplinary issues. These findings confirm that character-based Cultural Arts learning provides meaningful learning experiences and can serve as a model for character education implementation in elementary schools.

Abstract

The digital leadership of school principals plays a crucial role in strengthening the learning ecosystem in the era of the Merdeka Curriculum, especially in primary schools that are adapting to the use of educational technology. The Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes flexibility, project-based learning, and the use of digital tools to support more independent and meaningful learning processes. In this context, school principals act as digital leaders who not only manage schools but also guide the technological vision, enhance teacher competencies, and foster an innovative and responsive school culture in line with digital developments. This study employed a quantitative descriptive approach through surveys conducted with 120 primary school teachers across three districts/cities. The findings revealed three key results. First, 78% of teachers reported an improvement in their competency in using learning applications following the implementation of digital leadership policies by school principals. Second, 72% of schools reported increased collaboration between teachers and parents through school digital platforms, which positively impacted student engagement in learning. Third, 81% of principals utilized digital data (learning dashboards, online assessments, and daily reports) for faster decision-making regarding students’ learning needs. These findings reinforce that digital leadership significantly contributes to the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum and creates a learning ecosystem that is inclusive, adaptive, and relevant to the demands of 21st-century education.

Abstract

Students learning outcomes in science and social science (IPAS) learning remain a concern, particularly in the topic of map recognition, which involves visual concepts and requires instructional media that can enhance student engagement. The limited use of instructional media has resulted in less interactive learning processes, contributing to low learning outcomes. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of interactive learning media developed using Articulate Storyline in improving the learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students on the topic of map recognition. This study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 24 fourth-grade students at SDIT Al-Manar Pekanbaru. Data were collected through pretests and posttests and analyzed using the Normalized Gain (N-Gain) test to determine the improvement in students' learning outcomes. The findings revealed that the mean score increased from 58.75 on the pretest to 93.75 on the posttest, while the learning mastery rate improved from 33.3% to 91.6%. Furthermore, the average N-Gain score was 0.90, which falls into the high category. These findings indicate that the Articulate Storyline-based interactive learning media is effective in improving students' learning outcomes and can serve as an innovative instructional medium for IPAS learning in elementary schools
