Abstract

The Wayang Kaleng dance is a form of creative dance that combines elements of tradition and contemporary creativity, thus containing various symbols that represent the cultural values of the community. This study aims to determine the symbolic meaning of the Wayang Kaleng dance at the Sanggar Etnika Daya Suara in Bogor City. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach, which attempts to describe and interpret the symbolic meanings contained in the movements. The theoretical basis used in this study includes Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory, which emphasizes the concept of signifier and signified. The results show that the Wayang Kaleng dance contains symbolic meaning manifested through the relationship between the signifier and signified in each movement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of creative dance learning through Project Based Learning (PjBL) on the creative thinking skills of vocational high school students. This research was motivated by the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum and the Pancasila Student Profile, which emphasize creativity as an important competency. The method used was an experiment with a quantitative approach involving 35 tenth-grade students at SMKN 15 Bandung. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show a significant increase in students' creative thinking skills after the implementation of PjBL in creative dance learning. This is evidenced by a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores with a t-test result showing a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. Thus, it can be concluded that PjBL learning is effective in improving students' creative thinking skills.

Abstract

Dance learning at the senior high school (SMA) level still faces significant gender bias challenges. Culturally, dance is often constructed as an activity synonymous with femininity, which results in male students tending to be passive, lacking in confidence, and limiting their involvement during the learning process. Based on this reality, this study aims to explore the manifestations of gender stigma experienced by male students and its implications for their learning motivation. To explore this issue, the study was conducted at SMAN 1 Parongpong, West Bandung Regency, using qualitative descriptive methods through data collection techniques of participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. Based on the analysis, it was found that gender stigma manifests implicitly through social perceptions and interactions within the school environment, where this condition directly impacts the low intrinsic motivation of male students. However, this study also revealed important findings that the implementation of an inclusive and gender-responsive learning approach has proven effective in reducing this stigma and increasing the active participation of male students. Thus, this study concludes that the role of teachers is crucial in deconstructing stigma and reconstructing a safe, equal, and meaningful dance learning environment for all students.

Abstract

Every artwork  is viewed  as a network of interconnected meaning, forming a dynamic structure akin to a spider's web. This view is reflected in Dance Drama and Sundanese Kawih, both of which adapt the Jaya Perkosa episode from the Babad Sumedang script. To analyze this relationship, the intertextuality approach is employed to trace the interlocking texts and meanings. On the other hand, the critical discourse approach is used to dissect how both voice criticism and discourse are shaped by the historical relations. As a result, the two works reproduce the content of the Babad Sumedang to reflect current social, political, and cultural conditions. Intertextuality contributes to connecting old texts with contemporary contexts, thereby facilitating a meeting between tradition and modernity. This process demonstrates that cultural texts are continually in dynamic negotiation with an ever-evolving reality.
