Abstract

Unintended pregnancy (KTD) is a serious problem in the world of reproductive health, including among health workers. This study aims to identify factors that contribute to the occurrence of KTD in health workers at RSU Ibu Kartini Kisaran in February 2023. This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire from 30 respondents who experienced KTD. The results showed that most health workers who experienced KTD were 20–30 years old, unmarried, and had limited knowledge about contraception. The main causal factors were lack of access to contraception, partner pressure, and social stigma against the use of contraception among health workers. These results indicate the need for educational interventions and internal hospital policies that support the reproductive health of health workers. This study is expected to be the basis for developing health promotion programs and reproductive counseling in the hospital environment.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the health problems that often occurs in adolescents, both boys and girls, and has a significant impact on academic achievement, physical activity, and growth and development. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of students of SMA Negeri 1 Kisaran regarding the dangers of anemia and the importance of early prevention. The method used is health education through interactive counseling and distribution of educational leaflets in August 2023. A total of 80 students from grades X and XI participated. The pre-test results showed that only 35% of students had sufficient knowledge about anemia, while after intervention through education, this figure increased to 87.5%. This activity proves that school-based education is very effective in increasing student awareness of anemia. It is hoped that similar activities can be carried out periodically as part of the UKS and promotive-preventive programs in schools.

Abstract

Falls in the elderly are a leading cause of serious injury, which can significantly impact quality of life. Therefore, health education regarding emergency measures is crucial to improve the preparedness of the elderly and their surrounding communities in dealing with such situations. Given the high rate of falls in the elderly, various studies indicate that approximately one-quarter to one-third of elderly people in the community experience at least one fall per year, and this figure can exceed one-third in the very elderly, making falls a significant public health issue. This community service activity aimed to provide basic understanding and skills regarding fall management in the elderly through an interactive lecture. Fifty elderly participants participated in the activity and a three-person implementation team with clearly defined roles. Evaluation results indicated an increase in participants' understanding of appropriate emergency steps after a fall, as well as the creation of effective communication between participants and the presenters. This activity had a positive impact in increasing awareness and knowledge of the elderly regarding the importance of prompt and appropriate fall management. Continuing health education and practical training are recommended as follow-up measures to strengthen the capacity of the elderly to respond to emergencies.

Abstract

The high density of occupancy in Islamic boarding schools and limited hygiene facilities often lead to high rates of skin disease transmission, particularly scabies. The purpose of this community service program is to increase knowledge and change the behavior of students through Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) Education as an effort to prevent scabies at the Bina Ulama Kisaran Islamic Boarding School. The activity was attended by 79 students and was implemented through the stages of survey, preparation, intervention, and monitoring and evaluation. The intervention was carried out using an interactive lecture method using PowerPoint presentations and posters, followed by a prevention simulation. Evaluation was measured using pre-test and post-test questionnaires and post-activity behavioral observations. The results of the community service program showed a significant increase in students' knowledge, with the overall average score increasing from 49% (pre-test) to 87% (post-test). Students also began implementing a zero-sharing policy and routinely drying mattresses. As a curative follow-up, students with symptoms were given 5% Permethrin cream. Conclusion: Visual media-based education has proven effective in improving cognitive aspects and triggering initial behavioral changes in students. The program's sustainability is supported by the commitment of caregivers through the planned formation of a health cadre for the Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

Deep breathing technique is one type of breathing technique, and can reduce pain in mothers in labor non-pharmacologically by taking a deep breath during contractions using diaphragmatic breathing through the nose so that the abdomen is lifted slowly, the chest expands fully will flow oxygen to the blood which is then distributed throughout the body will release endorphin hormones which are natural pain relievers in the body. This study uses a "Descriptive Survey" research design and this research method is Cross Sectional with an approach. The population in this study was 160 families in Dusun II, Pasiran Village, using the Simple Random Sampling technique with a sample size of 20 respondents. Data collection techniques by observation, interviews, documentation, and filling out questionnaires and using the categories know and do not know. From the results of this study, the results obtained about the description of maternal knowledge about reducing labor pain using deep breathing techniques are said to be in the "Good" category where the score is 13 with a presentation of 86.6%. The conclusion of the study is that deep breathing techniques can reduce pain in mothers in labor. It is expected that mothers who have experience giving birth, when accompanying mothers giving birth, teach mothers according to their experience how to deal with labor pain so that mothers who do not have experience do not feel afraid.

Abstract

Early Breastfeeding Initiation (IMD) is a group that helps new mothers start breastfeeding their babies immediately after birth, usually on the same day. This study aimed to determine community knowledge about how to initiate breastfeeding early at the Firda Hasanah Clinic in Guntung Village, Tanjung Tiram District. This research methodology uses a descriptive survey method and is cross-sectional in nature, with data. Although there were 36 respondents, the sample was determined using a sampling technique known as "sampling determination technique," which states that every time we use an entire group of people or objects as a sample, it occurs when the group is quite small. Not as high as thirty people, and the sample size in this study was a minimum of thirty-six pregnant women who participated in pregnancy at the Firda Hasanah Clinic. The research findings regarding pregnant women's understanding of the implementation of initiation management at the Firda Hasanah clinic, Guntung Village, Tanjung Tiram District can be categorized as "Quite Good" with a percentage of 63.6%. The goal of the Pregnant Women's program is to help students understand the importance of early breastfeeding initiation, starting with themselves, as well as with their friends and family, so that early breastfeeding can be as effective as possible during the most crucial period, the first hour after birth. If the diet plan is successful, strict infant feeding for six months can also be successful, so that the baby receives the best nutrition from the mother.

Abstract

Breast cancer ranks first in terms of the number of cancers in Indonesia and is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths. Approximately 43% of cancer deaths can be prevented if patients regularly perform early detection through breast self-examination (SADARI) and avoid risk factors that cause cancer. The purpose of this study was to determine the behavior of adolescent girls regarding SADARI (Breast Self-Examination). The research type was a descriptive survey. The population in this study was all 273 12th-grade female adolescents attending MAN Asahan. The sample was determined using the Yount formula (1999) using a purposive sampling technique, meaning sampling is based on certain considerations made by the researcher, based on previously known characteristics or traits of the population. The sample size in this study was 27 12th-grade female adolescents at MAN Asahan. The results of the measurement of adolescent knowledge about breast self-examination fell into the good category with a total score of 8.36 (92.88%), and the measurement of actions fell into the good category with a total score of 6.46 (77.77%). The final conclusion of the study on the knowledge and practices of adolescent girls regarding breast self-examination (BSE) at Asahan State Islamic Senior High School (Islamic Senior High School) is that it falls into the good category (85.29%). There is a significant relationship between knowledge level and BSE behavior. Adolescent girls with good knowledge tend to have positive attitudes and better practices in performing BSE. Given the increasing importance of BSE for adolescent girls, schools should incorporate BSE into extracurricular curricula through School Health Program activities. As a smart generation, adolescent girls should be proactive in seeking accurate and reliable information about reproductive health, including BSE.

Abstract

Malaria is a disease caused by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium. Malaria in humans can be caused by P. malariae, P. vivax, P. falciparum, and P. ovale. Malaria is transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes, resulting in infection of red blood cells by Plasmodium, which is transmitted through the Anopheles mosquito's bloodsucking. The purpose of this study was to determine family knowledge about malaria prevention. This study used a descriptive survey design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was 103 heads of families in Darussalam Hamlet, Teluk Piai Village, with a sample of 20 respondents. Respondents were family members suffering from malaria. The sample was selected using the Probability  sampling technique or Simple Random Sampling, where the sample was drawn randomly without regard to strata within the population. Based on the results, it was found that family knowledge about malaria prevention was categorized as quite good, with a score of 6.75 (67.5%). Although families understand the basic transmission methods, there are still shortcomings in the technical aspects of independent primary prevention. Conclusion: Family knowledge is at a moderate (sufficient) level. Strengthening health education through a family-centered approach is needed to increase understanding and shift preventive behavior from adequate to good to support the malaria elimination program.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in women worldwide. Early detection through Sadari (Breast Self-Examination) relies heavily on an individual's understanding of risk factors. Adolescent girls are a target group for health education strategies to prevent delayed diagnosis in the future. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge of adolescent girls regarding breast cancer risk factors at Mas Muhammadiyah Sei Apung Jayaan. The research method used was descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at Mas Muhammadiyah Sei Apung Jaya, with a sample size of 20 female students. The sample size was selected using the Simple Random Sampling (SRS) technique, which involves random sampling without regard to strata within the population. This method is used when the population is considered homogeneous. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analyzed univariately to determine frequency distribution. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a knowledge level in the poor category, with the results obtained amounting to 5.6 (46.66%). Most respondents were unaware that disease and menstrual disorders are risk factors for breast cancer. Furthermore, respondents had not received information about breast cancer from health professionals. Conclusion: The level of knowledge of adolescent girls about breast cancer risk factors in Mas Muhammadiyah Sei Apung Jaya remains in the poor category. More intensive promotional efforts are needed from schools and health professionals through counseling or digital information media to increase awareness of adolescent girls regarding breast health.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease whose control is highly dependent on family participation. Family members living under the same roof as a patient are at high risk of transmission if they lack adequate understanding of the transmission mechanisms of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and preventive measures. Objective This study aims to describe the level of family knowledge regarding prevention efforts and transmission mechanisms of pulmonary tuberculosis in Cinta Jadi Village, Ujung Padang District. The research design used was descriptive quantitative. The study population included all families with members with pulmonary tuberculosis in Cinta Jadi Village. Sampling was conducted using a saturated sampling technique, resulting in 18 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering aspects of transmission and prevention, then processed through univariate analysis to generate frequency distributions and percentages. The study findings indicate that the majority of families' knowledge regarding pulmonary tuberculosis prevention is in the adequate category (68.6%), and knowledge regarding transmission is also in the adequate category (63.1%). Although most respondents understood that transmission occurs through the air, there were still gaps in understanding aspects of prevention, particularly regarding the benefits of sunlight exposure (vitamin D) and the use of clean water. Furthermore, regarding transmission, respondents were not fully aware that infants are at high risk of contracting pulmonary TB. Overall, the knowledge of families in Cinta Jadi Village regarding the prevention and transmission of pulmonary TB still needs to be improved, particularly in the dimensions of environmental health and home lighting. Health workers in Ujung Padang District are advised to optimize door-to-door outreach programs to strengthen preventive behaviors at the family level.
