Abstract

In the face of the escalating climate crisis, Indonesian tropical forests, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world, are experiencing profound challenges. Climate change poses a significant threat to forest resilience, affecting biodiversity, water cycles, and carbon sequestration capacities. This research explores climate-adaptive silvicultural strategies aimed at enhancing the resilience of these ecosystems to climate-induced stresses. The study investigates the role of forest management practices, including species selection, planting techniques, and conservation methods, in promoting sustainable forest development. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining field observations, climate modeling, and stakeholder interviews to assess current silvicultural practices and their effectiveness in climate adaptation. Data collected from diverse forest sites across Indonesia were analyzed to identify patterns of forest health, growth rates, and biodiversity preservation. Results indicate that adaptive silvicultural techniques, such as the use of native species, agroforestry systems, and selective logging practices, significantly enhance forest resilience. Furthermore, these strategies contribute to improved carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and soil stability. This study concludes that climate-adaptive silviculture is crucial for mitigating the impacts of climate change on Indonesian tropical forests. Implementing these strategies will foster sustainable forest management, ensuring long-term ecological balance and ecosystem services.

Abstract

Background. Informal digital environments have become influential spaces for incidental language learning among young people, especially where formal classroom instruction alone may not adequately foster communicative fluency. Purpose. This study aimed to investigate how Indonesian youth acquire English incidentally through engagement in online gaming and streaming cultures. It focused on identifying the types of linguistic features acquired, the social-interactional mechanisms that facilitate learning, and the extent to which these informal experiences complement or exceed outcomes from formal English instruction. Method. A qualitative descriptive research design was employed using digital ethnography. Data were collected from 32 participants aged 13–22 through in-depth interviews, observation of online interactions, and discourse analysis of chat logs and voice communications over a three-month period. Results. The findings indicated that participants acquired functional vocabulary, pragmatic expressions, and increased communicative confidence primarily through authentic peer interaction, task-based collaboration, and the need to negotiate meaning during gameplay. Participants reported notable improvements in listening comprehension and speaking fluency, often perceiving faster progress in informal digital environments than in formal classroom settings. Conclusion. The study concludes that online gaming and streaming cultures function as dynamic and self-sustaining ecosystems for incidental English language learning. These environments provide rich exposure, strong motivation, and meaningful interactional demands that are frequently limited in school-based instruction.

Abstract

Background. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies have the potential to revolutionize language learning by providing immersive, interactive environments that enhance cultural understanding and linguistic proficiency. Traditional language learning methods often fail to fully engage learners in real-life contexts, limiting their exposure to authentic language use and cultural nuances. AR and VR offer a unique opportunity to simulate real-world scenarios, enabling learners to experience language and culture in ways that were previously unimaginable. Purpose. This study aims to explore the integration of AR and VR technologies into language learning platforms to enhance both linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. The research focuses on evaluating how immersive environments can improve learners’ ability to engage with language in practical, context-driven settings. Method. The study uses a mixed-methods design, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data. Participants were exposed to AR and VR-based language learning modules, and their linguistic performance, cultural understanding, and engagement were assessed through pre- and post-tests, surveys, and interviews. Observational data from classroom settings were also analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of the immersive learning experience. Results. The findings show that learners who engaged with AR/VR-based language learning demonstrated significant improvements in both linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. Additionally, participants reported higher levels of motivation and engagement compared to traditional methods. Conclusion. AR and VR technologies offer significant potential in language learning by providing immersive experiences that enhance both linguistic and cultural learning. The study highlights the importance of integrating innovative technologies into educational frameworks to foster more effective and engaging language acquisition.
