Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to optimize the use of social media as a means of empowering the younger generation in environmental protection. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR) through analysis of social media content, location-based environmental issues, and direct involvement of youth in conservation campaigns and activities. The results of the activity show that social media is effective as a medium for education, mobilizing action, and forming environmental care communities that have an impact on increasing awareness, participation, solidarity, and collaboration among youth. Digital platforms have also proven to be able to promote environmental activities widely and quickly. However, the consistency of involvement in real actions and sustainable education programs still needs to be strengthened through mentoring and more systematic communication strategies. Thus, the integration of relevant, authentic, and easy-to-understand environmental narratives in social media is a key strategy to increase the practical participation of the younger generation while strengthening community-based conservation movements.

Abstract

River clean-up activities represent a collaborative effort involving students and the community aimed at reducing environmental pollution, improving river ecosystem quality, and fostering sustainable ecological awareness. This program was implemented using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on maximizing local potential such as active community participation, support from local government, and the availability of cleaning facilities and equipment. The implementation of the activity included preparation stages, manual cleaning along riverbanks, and the use of heavy equipment to remove large quantities of weeds and waste. The results indicate an improvement in river cleanliness and an increased level of community awareness regarding environmental conservation efforts. These findings are consistent with previous studies emphasizing the importance of community involvement in maintaining the sustainability of river ecosystems. Overall, this activity contributes to the formation of a healthier environmental culture, encourages sustained participation, strengthens stakeholder synergy, and is expected to become a routine community-based program with long-term impacts for communities living around river areas.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to foster social solidarity and empathy for the inequality faced by underprivileged communities through a program of distributing basic food packages and donating books, implemented by students at Sunan Giri University, Surabaya. This program is a form of social responsibility oriented towards fulfilling the community's basic needs while simultaneously increasing access to learning resources. The program implemented the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on identifying and utilizing the community's assets and potential. A SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis was also used as a tool to support program planning and implementation. The results indicate that the distribution of basic food packages and book donations benefited the target community by helping them meet their basic needs and improving access to knowledge resources. This activity also contributed to strengthening social solidarity, increasing student awareness of community conditions, and supporting efforts to improve the quality of human resources. Thus, this community service program represents a tangible contribution from higher education institutions in supporting community welfare and empowerment.
