Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect and compare the effectiveness of mental imagery and video modelling exercise methods on basketball shooting skills (free throw, three-point, and lay-up) among students at SMAN 1 Sumedang. This study applied a quantitative experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 24 students evenly divided into three groups (n=8): Mental Imagery, Video Modelling, and Control. Since the data normality prerequisites were not met, hypothesis testing was conducted using non-parametric statistics. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test results indicated that all groups experienced a significant score increase (p < 0.05) internally from pre-test to post-test. Furthermore, the Kruskal-Wallis H Test proved a highly significant difference in the effectiveness of the gain score simultaneously among the three groups (p = 0.000). Based on further analysis using the Mann-Whitney U Test, it was revealed that the video modelling method was the most effective intervention, recording the highest gain score improvement compared to the mental imagery method and the control group. The dominant mechanical improvement occurred in the lay-up and free throw components, while the three-point shooting was generally limited by the physical capacity of public school students. In conclusion, visual observation intervention through video modelling is highly recommended to accelerate students’ cognitive understanding and motor adaptation in basketball learning. Abstract

The modern era, characterized by rapid advances in digital technology, has led to an increase in sedentary lifestyles among children and adolescents, which has resulted in a decline in physical literacy—a crucial foundation for students’ affec-tive, cognitive, and psychomotor development. This study aims to analyze the role of traditional games in improving students’ physical literacy in the modern era through a literature review approach. The method used is a literature review em-ploying descriptive analysis techniques on various relevant articles, journals, and scientific literature. The findings indicate that traditional games such as engklek, gobak sodor, and hide-and-seek have been proven to holistically enhance stu-dents’ physical literacy, encompassing the physical, psychological, social, and cognitive domains. Furthermore, traditional games are effective in reducing sed-entary time, improving motor skills, physical fitness, motivation, and students’ self-confidence to actively engage in long-term physical activities. Traditional games also contribute to character building, the instillation of cooperative values, and the preservation of local culture. Thus, traditional games can serve as a contextual, relevant, and effective pedagogical approach in physical education at school to support the development of physical literacy among students growing up amidst the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how educational play activities contribute to enhancing early childhood cognitive development. The cognitive aspect is a crucial part of child development as it relates to the ability to think, solve problems, and understand their surrounding environment. This study uses a qualitative approach through a literature review supported by simple observations of children's play activities. The findings indicate that various forms of educational play, such as puzzles, building blocks, and exploratory games, can stimulate thinking abilities, improve focus, and encourage the development of children's logic and creativity. Additionally, the active role of parents and teachers in accompanying children during play also significantly influences optimal cognitive development. Thus, educational play activities can serve as an effective and enjoyable learning medium for early childhood. Therefore, proper management and utilization of play activities are necessary for children's cognitive development to reach its maximum potential.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness in physical education learning in grade XI high school students throughout the city of Bandung. The research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The research subjects amounted to 324 students who were selected through cluster random sampling techniques  from three State High Schools in the city of Bandung. Physical literacy was measured using the Physical Literacy Assessment of Youth (PLAY) instrument, while physical fitness was measured using the Nusantara Student Fitness Test (TKPN). Data analysis includes instrument validity and reliability tests, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation tests, and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the level of physical literacy of students was in the medium category and there was a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness (p < 0.05), although the strength of the relationship was relatively low. Regression analysis shows that physical literacy contributes significantly to students' physical fitness. The conclusion of this study shows that physical literacy has an important role in supporting students' physical fitness, so strengthening physical literacy needs to be systematically integrated in physical education learning in schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Pencak Silat extracurricular activities integrated with the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework on adolescent development. The research is motivated by the growing need to promote character formation and life skills among youth through structured, sport-based educational interventions. A quantitative method employing a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group format was utilized. The sample consisted of 26 adolescents aged 14–18 years, divided equally into an experimental group, which received PYD-integrated Pencak Silat training, and a control group, which participated in conventional training without explicit PYD components. Data were collected using the Positive Youth Development Inventory (PYDI), a validated and reliable instrument measuring six core PYD dimensions: competence, confidence, connection, character, caring, and contribution. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p < 0.05), with the experimental group demonstrating superior posttest outcomes. Additionally, the normalized gain (N-Gain) analysis yielded a mean score of 0.4258, categorized as moderate, indicating a measurable improvement in PYD dimensions following the intervention. These findings suggest that the integration of PYD principles within Pencak Silat training contributes significantly to adolescents’ holistic development. Beyond its role as a physical activity, Pencak Silat represents a culturally embedded pedagogical medium capable of fostering character education and social competence. The study underscores the potential of value-based traditional sports programs in educational contexts and recommends further research with larger sample sizes and extended intervention durations to enhance generalizability and robustness of findings.
