Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary school emphasizes not only the mastery of concepts, but also the development of mathematical connection skills and the management of students' affective aspects, particularly math anxiety. This study aims to analyze the improvement of mathematical connection skills and the reduction of mathematics anxiety of elementary school students through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the Wordwall educational game. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasy experimental design of the pretest-posttest control group type. The research subjects consisted of 50 grade IV students divided into experimental classes and control classes. The research instruments were in the form of mathematical connection ability tests and mathematical anxiety questionnaires. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U, N-gain, and Spearman's rho correlations. The results showed that the mathematical connection ability of students who obtained PBL learning assisted by Wordwall was significantly higher than conventional learning. There is a significant relationship between mathematical connection ability and students' math anxiety. Thus, Wordwall-assisted PBL learning is effective in improving mathematical connection skills and contributes to reducing mathematics anxiety in elementary school students.

Abstract

Mathematical connection ability is one of the important competencies that need to be developed so that students are able to relate mathematical concepts to other mathematical concepts, other fields of science, and the context of everyday life. However, in reality, the mathematical connection ability of elementary school students is still relatively low, one of which is caused by the limitations of conventional teaching materials and the lack of utilization of interactive digital technology. This study aims to develop teaching materials in the form of Flip PDF Professional-based e-modules on the material of flat shapes, and to test their validity and effectiveness in improving the mathematical connection ability of elementary school students. The research method used is research and development with the ADDIE model which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of the research trial involved fifth-grade students of UPTD SD Negeri 2 Peusangan Siblah Krueng. The research instruments included expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and mathematical connection ability tests. The validation results showed that the developed e-module was in the very feasible category based on the assessment of media, material, and language experts. The results of the product trial also showed a very positive response from students. The effectiveness test using the N-gain calculation showed a value of 0.82, a high score, indicating that the Flip PDF Professional-based e-module is effective in improving students' mathematical connection skills. Therefore, the Flip PDF Professional-based e-module is feasible and effective for use as a digital teaching material in elementary school mathematics.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is an important skill that students need to have to solve various problems logically and systematically. However, the mathematical problem-solving ability of fourth-grade students on plane geometry material is still relatively low. The purpose of this study is to improve students' mathematical problem-solving ability through the application of the Think Pair Share (TPS) learning model assisted by Quizizz. This study uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is implemented in two cycles through the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were 22 fourth-grade students at one of the Public Elementary Schools in Central Aceh Regency. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests to measure students' abilities on plane geometry material, as well as observation and interviews to obtain information about the learning process. The results of the study showed that the application of the Think Pair Share (TPS) model assisted by Quizizz was able to improve students' abilities in solving mathematical problems. Classical learning completeness increased from 31.81% in cycle I to 86.36% in cycle II. Teacher activity showed a percentage of 78.32% in cycle I and increased to 88.32% in cycle II. Meanwhile, student activity showed a percentage of 76.10% in cycle I and increased to 86.10% in cycle II. The research findings indicate that the implementation of the TPS model assisted by Quizizz is effective in improving the mathematical problem-solving skills of fourth-grade elementary school students on plane geometry.

Abstract

Elementary school students' mathematical problem-solving skills remain low, particularly regarding fraction operations. Students struggle to grasp fraction concepts and determine the steps needed to solve problems. This study aims to determine the improvement in students' problem-solving skills through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model applied to the topic of fraction operations. The study employed a mixed-methods approach (combining quantitative and qualitative data) within a Classroom Action Research (CAR) framework, conducted at UPTD SD Negeri 9 Gandapura with 14 fifth-grade students. Data were collected via tests, observations, and interviews, and analyzed descriptively. The research was carried out in two action cycles, each comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection phases. The results indicate an improvement in problem-solving skills: the mastery percentage rose from 28.57% in Cycle I to 85.71% in Cycle II. Teacher activity increased from 79.99% in Cycle I to 90.76% in Cycle II, while student activity rose from 77.69% to 89.23%. Interview results show that students responded positively to the instruction, finding the material easier to understand through real-world contexts and the lessons more engaging. These findings indicate that the RME model is effective in enhancing students' mathematical problem-solving skills regarding fraction operations.
