Abstract

Abstract: Children's songs are one of the effective media for instilling character values in early childhood. Through simple and understandable lyrics, songs can become enjoyable tools for moral and social learning. This study aims to describe Schwartz's motivational value types found in Japanese children's songs. The songs analyzed were Anpanman no March, Doraemon no Uta, Inu no Omawarisan, and Donguri Korokoro. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a literature study approach. The data consisted of song lyrics analyzed using Schwartz's theory of ten motivational values, namely Power, Achievement, Hedonism, Stimulation, Self Direction, Universalism, Benevolence, Tradition, Conformity, and Security. Data analysis was conducted through lyric identification, meaning interpretation, value classification, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the dominant values were Benevolence, Universalism, Self-Direction, and Security. Japanese children's songs function not only as entertainment media but also as character education tools that teach social care, responsibility, courage, cooperation, independence, and respect for the environment and others. The findings indicate that children's songs can be effectively utilized as a medium for character education in early childhood.
