Abstract

This study examines whether selling dried paddy generates a price premium compared to selling wet paddy at the farm-gate level in Aceh Province, Indonesia. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted across ten major rice-producing districts in Aceh, using primary data from 106 farmers included in the final analysis. The empirical strategy combines descriptive statistics, a Welch two-sample t-test for mean comparisons, and an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression with heteroskedasticity-robust standard errors (HC1). The mean comparison indicates that dried paddy is sold at a higher price than wet paddy, with an average difference of about IDR 332.55 per kg, which is statistically significant. The OLS results corroborate this finding: selling dried paddy is associated with an increase of approximately IDR 366.94 per kg after controlling for farm size, irrigation status, harvest mechanization, pest-related output losses, and farmer group membership. These findings highlight the economic relevance of post-harvest decisions particularly drying in shaping farm-gate prices.
