Abstract

Lake Kerinci has experienced environmental pressure due to increased nutrient inputs from domestic and agricultural activities, which may trigger eutrophication and excessive growth of water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes). This study aimed to analyze the concentrations of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) and their relationship with water hyacinth density in Lake Kerinci. The research employed a quantitative approach with descriptive and correlational analyses. Water samples were collected from five sampling points in the Sanggaran Agung area of Lake Kerinci. Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations were analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, while potassium was measured using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Water hyacinth density was determined using the quadrat method. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation analysis. The results showed that nitrogen concentrations ranged from 1.62 to 6.33 mg/L, while phosphorus concentrations ranged from 0.05); however, both relationships were not statistically significant. The relationship between potassium concentration and water hyacinth density could not be analyzed due to data limitations. These findings suggest that water hyacinth growth in Lake Kerinci is influenced not only by nutrient concentrations but also by other physical and environmental factors.

Abstract

Water is an essential basic need for human survival. Without water, humans cannot survive. Regional Drinking Water Companies (PDAMs) play an important role in meeting the continuously increasing demand for drinking water. Various challenges may arise during the drinking water production process, including declines in the quality of treated water and water supplied to consumers, equipment failures, and other factors. Drinking water providers must ensure that the water they produce is safe for human health in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010 concerning Drinking Water Quality Requirements. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the quality of treated water and consumer water supplied by Perumda Tirta Mayang in Jambi City. This study aimed to compare the quality of treated water and consumer water supplied by Perumda Tirta Mayang in Jambi City. The method used was observational testing of treated water and consumer water based on four parameters: pH, residual chlorine, turbidity, and iron (Fe) concentration. Three factors that may affect consumer water quality were also examined: distance, pipe type, and pipe age. The results showed that the water quality complied with the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 492/MENKES/PER/IV/2010 concerning Drinking Water Quality Requirements. Distance, pipe type, and pipe age also influenced the resulting consumer water quality. Both pH and residual chlorine decreased as the distance increased. The older the pipes, the higher the turbidity and iron (Fe) concentration. Based on the test results, the pipe types affecting consumer water quality in terms of turbidity and iron (Fe) were polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and ductile cast iron pipe (DCIP).Keywords: Consumed water,  Produced Water, Water Quality, Water Treatment Plant

Abstract

The existence of clean water is very needed for the continuity of daily activities, especially in Mekar Jaya Village, located in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi Province. The availability of clean water is very minimal and also expensive. Generally, this area is dominated by peatlands, the avialability of peat water, has characteristics that are not suitable for clean water needs where the characterestic of the water content peat have a low pH, brown color (like tea if its clear, but can become chocolate milk because of the mixture of sedimentation of mud), containing high KMnO4, COD, TDS, and Fe. There fire, testing the use local materials using the adsorption method with activated carbon in the form if areca nut in peat water purification. The highest percentage in reducing iron levels in peat water is 11% by utilizing activated carbon that has been activated from areca nut seeds, while the dye is still quite high which is only able to reduce the color content only 1%.Keywords: Peat Water, Activated carbon, Areca Nut
