Abstract

The rapid growth of digital media has increased the importance of personal branding among content creators. This study examines how Bobon Santoso employs digital communication strategies to build personal branding through the “Kuali Merah Putih” YouTube content series. The study analyzes visual, narrative, performative, symbolic, and interactive elements contributing to identity construction. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from 12 purposively selected YouTube videos through non-participant observation, digital documentation, and thematic analysis. The findings reveal that Bobon Santoso’s personal branding is constructed through consistent visual identity, large-scale cooking spectacles, nationalist symbolism, social storytelling, performative authenticity, and audience engagement. The “Merah Putih” symbol reinforces nationalism, solidarity, and social responsibility, while authentic performances and humanitarian narratives foster parasocial relationships, audience loyalty, emotional attachment, and trust. Effective personal branding extends beyond visibility by integrating meaningful social values and sustained audience interaction.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program has attracted attention for its socio-economic impact beyond food provision. This study examines volunteers’ perceptions of the economic impact of the MBG kitchen at SPPG Nginden Jangkungan, Surabaya, particularly regarding local employment generation. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed using semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The findings identified four themes. First, the MBG kitchen creates employment opportunities and additional income for housewives, unemployed youth, and informal workers. Second, collective activities strengthen social solidarity, cooperation, and community participation. Third, involvement in the program enhances volunteers’ self-confidence, empowerment, and social identity. Fourth, limited facilities, uneven task allocation, and inadequate institutional support challenge program sustainability. The study concludes that the MBG kitchen functions as both an economic empowerment mechanism and a social capital-building platform. Strengthening local recruitment, volunteer capacity development, operational support, and stakeholder collaboration is recommended to sustain and expand the program’s socio-economic benefits.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in athlete development because it influences motivation, psychological well-being, and athletic achievement. This study aimed to analyze how interpersonal communication between coaches and athletes contributes to performance development within the Cendana Judo Team in Surabaya. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed involving one head coach, one assistant coach, and four active athletes selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings revealed three major themes: openness and trust as the foundation of coach-athlete relationships, interpersonal communication as psychological support and a source of motivation, and communication as a contributing factor to athletic achievement. Effective communication strengthened discipline, commitment, mental readiness, and performance. Sports organizations should prioritize communication competence development and structured support systems.
