Abstract

Chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders pose significant treatment challenges due to their complexity and resistance to conventional therapies. Nanocarriers, as advanced drug and gene delivery systems, offer a promising solution to address these challenges by providing controlled release, improved targeting, and enhanced therapeutic efficacy. The ability to design nanocarriers that are biocompatible, stable, and capable of precise targeting to diseased tissues holds potential for revolutionizing the treatment of chronic diseases. This study aims to explore the design, development, and evaluation of advanced nanocarriers for controlled drug and gene delivery in chronic diseases. The research focuses on evaluating the efficacy of various nanocarriers, including liposomes, dendrimers, and nanoparticles, in improving drug bioavailability, targeting precision, and therapeutic outcomes in chronic disease models. The research utilizes in vitro cell culture studies and in vivo animal models to assess the effectiveness of different nanocarriers. Characterization techniques, including dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and drug release assays, are used to evaluate the properties and performance of the nanocarriers. The study demonstrates that advanced nanocarriers significantly improve drug delivery efficiency, reduce systemic toxicity, and enhance therapeutic outcomes in chronic disease models. Gene delivery using nanocarriers also shows promising results in terms of targeted therapy. Advanced nanocarriers are a promising tool for controlled drug and gene delivery, offering potential breakthroughs in the treatment of chronic diseases by improving precision and minimizing side effects.

Abstract

The process of labor is often accompanied by physical discomfort and emotional stress, which can influence its progression and the overall experience of childbirth. Birth ball exercises and spousal support have been identified as effective interventions to alleviate labor-related discomfort and anxiety. However, the combined effect of these interventions remains underexplored, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of combining birth ball exercises and spousal support on labor progression and maternal anxiety during the first stage of labor in Balikpapan. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was used, involving 60 first-time mothers who were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (birth ball exercises and spousal support) or a control group (standard care). Data on cervical dilation, contraction frequency, and labor duration were collected, alongside anxiety levels measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The results indicated that the experimental group experienced faster labor progression and significantly lower anxiety levels compared to the control group. The study concluded that combining birth ball exercises with spousal support can effectively improve labor outcomes and reduce maternal anxiety. These findings suggest the integration of these interventions into routine prenatal care to enhance maternal well-being and labor efficiency.

Abstract

Background. Childbirth is a challenging experience, and the involvement of the husband in providing emotional and physical support can significantly impact maternal outcomes. However, paternal involvement in non-pharmacological labor support remains underexplored, particularly in Balikpapan. Purpose. This study aimed to optimize the role of husbands in supporting their wives during labor through education and simulation of non-pharmacological techniques. Method. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach, involving 50 couples from Balikpapan. Participants attended educational sessions on non-pharmacological pain relief techniques, followed by simulation exercises where husbands practiced these methods. Results. The results showed a significant increase in husbands’ knowledge, with the mean post-test score rising from 35% to 78%. Moreover, husbands demonstrated a 60% improvement in applying non-pharmacological techniques during simulated labor scenarios. Conclusion. The findings suggest that targeted education and simulation effectively enhance husbands’ preparedness to provide essential support during labor, contributing to improved maternal comfort and reduced anxiety. This study highlights the importance of including paternal education in prenatal care programs, advocating for a more family-centered approach to childbirth. Future research should explore the long-term effects of such interventions and their applicability across diverse cultural contexts.
