Abstract

Background: SARS-CoV-2 is a new type of coronavirus that has never been previously identified in humans. In severe cases of COVID-19 it can cause pneumonia, acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. Hypertension causes a number of pathophysiological changes in the cardiovascular system such as left ventricular hypertrophy and fibrosis. This can make a hypertensive heart particularly vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2. This study aims to analyze and estimate the effect of comorbid hypertension on mortality in COVID-19 patients.Subjects and Method: This was a systematic review and meta-analysis conducted with PRISMA flow diagram. Article searches through journal databases include: Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and Springer Link by selecting articles published in 2020 and 2021. The keywords used are “Hypertension” OR “Hypertensive Patient” OR “Blood Pressure”, “Systolic Pressure” OR “Diastolic Pressure” AND “Mortality”, OR “death” OR “loss” AND “COVID-19” OR “SARS-COV-2” OR “coronavirus” AND “multivariate”. The inclusion criteria were full paper articles with observational research methods, the results of the analysis used the aOR value, the exposure given was comorbid hypertension, the research subjects were COVID-19 patients, with mortality outcomes. Eligible articles were analyzed using the Revman 5.3 app. Results: A meta-analysis of 18 articles showed that confirmed COVID-19 patients who had comorbid hypertension had a 1.27 times risk of mortality compared to those without comorbid hypertension and were statistically significant (aOR= 1.27; 95% CI= 1.14 to 1.41; p <0.001).Conclusion: Comorbid Hypertension affects the mortality of COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

Background: Lung cancer is a cancer whose incidence increases every year and is the number one cancer cause of death in the world. One of the causes of lung cancer comes from occupational exposure in the form of asbestos dust and silica. This study aims to analyze the effect of exposure to asbestos and silica dust on the incidence of lung cancer in the working community.Subjects and Method: This study is a meta-analysis with the following PICO, population: working society. Intervention: exposure to asbestos dust and silica dust. Comparison: not exposed to asbestos dust and silica dust. Result: lung cancer. The articles used in this study were obtained from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. The keywords to search for articles were “dust exposure” OR “silica dust exposure” OR “asbestos dust exposure” OR “occupational dust exposure” AND “lung cancer”. The articles included are full-text English with a case-control study design from 2007 to 2022. The articles were selected using PRISMA flow diagrams. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application.Results: A total of 14 case-control studies from continental Europe, America and Asia were selected for systematic review and meta-analysis. Based on 8 studies on the effect of exposure to asbestos dust on the incidence of lung cancer, the incidence of lung cancer increased 1.57 times compared to workers who were not exposed to asbestos dust (aOR= 1.57; 95% CI= 1.20 to 2.06; p= 0.001) and 9 case-control studies on the effect of exposure to silica dust showed an increase of 1.31 times the incidence of lung cancer compared to workers who were not exposed to silica dust (aOR = 1.31; 95% CI = 1.25 to 1.38; p<0.001).Conclusion: Exposure to asbestos and silica dust increases the incidence of lung cancer in workers. Abstract

Background: Noise is identified as one of the most widespread physical factors in occupational health and safety (OHS) and is a problem in all regions of the world. Noise can be pathogenic if there is continuous and repeated exposure causing a persistent upregulation of vascular autoregulation resulting in hypertension. Epidemiological studies report an association between occupational noise exposure and hypertension. This study aims to determine the effect of noise exposure in the workplace on hypertension.Subjects and Method: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis with the following PICO, Population= workers, Intervention= occupational noise exposure ≥85 dBA, Comparison= occupational noise exposure <85 dBA, Outcome= hypertension. The meta-analysis was carried out using search articles from databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct, published from 2012 to 2022. The keywords used in the article search were “Occupational Noise Exposure” OR “Occupational Noise” AND “Hypertension” OR "High Blood Pressure" OR "Primary Hypertension" AND "Workers" AND "Cross-Sectional Study". The included studies were full-text articles published in English, reporting the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of the results of the multivariate analysis, and the study design was cross-sectional. The selection of articles was carried out using PRISMA flow-charts and analyzed using the Revie Manager 5.3 application.Results: A total of 10 cross-sectional studies were analyzed involving 12,437 workers covering Iran, Jordan, China, Indonesia, Tunisia, and Brazil. The results of the meta-analysis showed that workers exposed to noise 85 dBA had higher hypertension than workers exposed to noise <85 dBA (aOR= 1.96; 95% CI= 1.68 to 2.29; p< 0.001).Conclusion: Exposure to occupational noise ≥ 85 dBA increases hypertension compared to exposure to occupational noise <85 dBA. Abstract

Background: Noise that exceeds the threshold value can cause work-related illness, which can be in the form of hearing loss or damage to the ear either temporarily or permanently after being exposed for a certain period of time without adequate protection. Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a working condition that often occurs in various industrial spectrums. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of the effect of noise on NIHL in manufacturing industry workers.Subjects and Method: This research is a systematic review and meta-analysis. Article search was carried out based on the PICO Model eligibility criteria including: P= Manufacturing industry worker; I= Noise intensity ≥85 dB; C= Noise intensity <85 dB; O= NIHL. The articles used come from 3 databases, namely: PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. The keywords used include “hearing loss” AND “noise-induced hearing loss” AND “manufacturing industry” AND “cross-sectional study”. The inclusion criteria in this study included full-text articles with a cross-sectional study design, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) was used, the articles were published in the 2003-2022 range, and the outcome was NIHL. Articles were analyzed using the PRISMA diagram and the Review Manager 5.3 application.Results: A meta-analysis of 10 articles from Arab Saudi, Ethiopia, Kuwait, Tanzania, Thailand, Cina, Yordania, Norwegia, and Iran showed that ≥85 dB noise increases the likelihood of NIHL in industrial manufacturing workers. Manufacturing workers exposed to noise intensity of ≥85 dB increased NIHL by 1.90 times compared to manufacturing workers exposed to <85 dB of noise, and this result was statistically significant (aOR= 1.90; CI 95%= 1.61 to 2.26; p< 0.001).Conclusion: A meta-analysis of 10 cross-sectional studies concluded that noise increases the incidence of NIHL in manufacturing industry workers. Abstract

Background: Noise is defined as sound intensity that is unwanted and can pose risks to health and safety at work, such as the risk of hypertension and noise-induced hearing loss. This study aims to analyze the effect of occupational noise on the risk of hypertension and noise induced hearing loss in industrial workers.Subjects and Method: A systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out using the PRISMA guidelines and the PICO model. Population: industrial workers. Intervention: occupational noise exposure ≥85 dB. Comparison: occupational noise exposure <85 dB. Outcome: hypertension and noise induced hearing loss. Articles are collected from PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Schoolar. The keywords used “occupational noise and hypertension” OR “occupational noise and hearing loss” AND “occupational noise” OR “hypertension” AND “hearing loss” AND “cross sectional study”. A total of 13 articles met the inclusion criteria, namely primary full text paper, cross-sectional study design, with a relationship size adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR), labor research subjects, interventions in the form of exposure to noise ≥85 dB and outcomes in the form of hypertension and noise induced hearing loss for meta-analyses were then assessed using RevMan 5.3.Results: Meta-analysis included 13 cross sectional studies from China, Brazil, Ethiopia, Jordan, South Africa, Thailand, Kuwait, and Pakistan. Occupational noise ≥85 dB significantly increased the risk of hypertension (aOR= 2.07; 95% CI= 1.31 to 3.26; p= 0.002) and hearing loss (aOR= 1.97; 95% CI= 1.36 to 2.85; p= 0.003) than occupational noise <85 dB.Conclusion: Occupational noise ≥85 dB increases the risk of hypertension and hearing loss in industrial workers. Abstract

Background: The financing burden for tuberculosis treatment is increasing along with the increasing number of cases of Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB). The main problems that arise in MDR-TB patients are difficult and expensive treatment, high mortality rates and the potential to transmit resistant bacilli to others. The purpose of the study was to estimate the magnitude of the influence of smoking behavior and poverty on the incidence of MDR-TB.Subjects and Method: This was a meta-analysis with PICO, population: active patients on TB treatment. Intervention: Smoking behavior and poverty. Comparison: not smoking and not poor. Result: MDR TB. The articles used in this study were obtained from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. Keywords to search for articles are “poverty” OR “smoking” AND “multidrug resistant tuberculosis”. Articles included are full-text English from 2012 to 2022. Articles were selected using a PRISMA flow diagram. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application. Results: A total of 12 articles came from the continents of Asia (China India, Indonesia), Africa (Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania), North America (Georgia), and South America (Peru). The results of this meta-analysis showed that smoking increased the risk of MDR TB 1.94 times compared to those who did not smoke (aOR = 1.94; 95% CI = 1.64 to 2.30; p = 0.005), and poverty increased the risk of MDR TB 1.85 times compared to those who did not. not in poverty (aOR= 1.85; 95% CI= 1.35 to 2.53; p= 0.004), and both results were statistically significant.Conclusion: Smoking behavior and poverty increase the risk of MDR TB.Keywords: smoking behavior, poverty, MDR TB.Correspondence:Bibit Irawan.
