Abstract

Severe preeclampsia is a condition characterized by systolic blood pressure exceeding 160 mmHg and diastolic pressure exceeding 110 mmHg, occurring after 20 weeks of gestation and accompanied by edema and proteinuria. One intervention used to save both mother and fetus is a cesarean section. This final nursing scientific paper analyzes the implementation of evidence-based practice, specifically warm foot soak therapy, for mothers with severe preeclampsia during the pre- and postpartum periods who are at risk for ineffective cerebral perfusion. This descriptive case study method used a nursing care approach. Assessment results identified five major nursing problems, including the risk for ineffective cerebral perfusion. After four days of warm foot soak therapy, this problem was resolved, as blood pressure decreased from 147/101 mmHg to 120/88 mmHg. Conclusion: Warm foot soak therapy effectively lowers blood pressure in pre- and postpartum mothers with severe preeclampsia. Recommendation: Nurses can implement warm

Abstract

Introduction: The cause of cervical cancer is HPV, the transmission of which stems from poor personal hygiene, particularly inadequate vulvar hygiene. One factor that can influence adolescents to practise self-care, particularly vulvar hygiene, is knowledge and behaviour. A lack of accurate knowledge and information among adolescents regarding reproductive health can lead to a lack of responsibility for their own reproductive health. They feel embarrassed and consider this a taboo subject to discuss; therefore, peer education is effective in influencing behavioural change, encompassing knowledge, attitudes, and skills among adolescents. The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of “Connecting Knowledge” to vulva hygiene practices in cervical cancer prevention. Methods: The research design is a a quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design without a control group. The sample will be selected using quota sampling, with inclusion criteria comprising third- and fifth-semester nursing students and adolescents aged 12–19 years. Group I consists of 10 third- and fifth-semester students from STIKES Telogorejo in Semarang; Group II comprises 20 individuals; and Group III comprises 40 adolescents from the Karang Ayu sub-district. Quantitative data were managed and analysed using SPSS, using a Paired t-test with a p-value of <0.05. Results and Recommendation: The results of this study show that the majority of respondents were aged 18 and p value <0.05, indicate that connecting knowledge influences adolescents’ knowledge (0.05 and 0.012) and behaviour (0.012 and 0.034) regarding vulvar hygiene in the prevention of cervical cancer. It is recommended that further research should incorporate additional interventions and involve a wider range of stakeholders, thereby providing adolescents with a safe space to look after their health without feeling embarrassed to speak openly. Cervical cancer prevention begins in adolescence and continues into adulthood, and could be incorporated as one of the interventions within comprehensive nursing care.

Abstract

Cancer is characterized by abnormal, uncontrolled cellular proliferation and its incidence in women continues to rise, including in Central Java, Indonesia. Women undergoing cancer treatment frequently experience psychological distress such as hopelessness, pessimism, and loss of motivation, which can influence their self-efficacy, coping mechanisms, and overall life quality. This study aimed to examine the correlations of self-efficacy and coping mechanisms with the life quality of women with cancer at Dr. Kariadi General Hospital, Semarang. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was applied. The population comprised 1,820 women diagnosed with breast, ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer, from which 106 respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using the Self-Efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease (SEMCD6) questionnaire, the Cancer Coping Questionnaire, and the EORTC QLQ-C30, then analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that most respondents had high self-efficacy (79.2%), adaptive coping mechanisms (93.4%), and good life quality (90.0%). Spearman's rank correlation revealed no significant correlation between self-efficacy and life quality (p = 0.138; r = 0.145) or between coping mechanisms and life quality (p = 0.402; r = 0.082), both showing a very weak positive correlation. These findings indicate that the life quality of women with cancer is shaped by multiple interacting factors beyond self-efficacy and coping mechanisms alone, such as family and spiritual support, physical symptoms, and cancer stage. Future researchers should explore additional determinants of life quality among women with cancer.
